Force India ontwerpt tien verschillende vleugels

Force India bouwt dit jaar tien verschillende vleugels om in te kunnen spelen op de verschillende circuits. Dat verkondigde technisch directeur Andy Green aan Auto Motor und Sport. De nieuwe Formule 1-wagens genereren meer downforce en bieden de teams meer speelruimte om te variëren met de vleugels. Alleen voor de Italiaanse Grand Prix op Monza is het even lastig.

Green legt uit: "We kunnen weer genoeg neerwaartse druk produceren en dat biedt meer mogelijkheden voor de afstelling. De specificaties voor de vleugels zijn afhankelijk van de lay-out van het circuit. Ik hou er rekening mee dat we dit seizoen tien verschillende vleugels, voor en achter, nodig zullen hebben."

Force India verdeelt de circuits onder in vier groepen. "We rijden alleen in Monaco, Hongarije, Singapore en Spanje met maximale downforce", aldus Green. Tot de categorie 'veel downforce' behoren Australië, Rusland, Groot-Brittannië, China en Bahrein. De categorie 'gemiddeld downforce' bestaat onder meer uit België, Azerbeidzjan en Canada.

Blijft over Italië, waar alle teams met zo min mogelijk neerwaartse druk willen rijden. Dat is nog wel een opgave, zegt Green. "We hebben nog geen vleugels gevonden die klein genoeg zijn om ons op Monza de topsnelheid te geven die we nodig denken te hebben. De nieuwe auto's produceren zoveel downforce dat de topsnelheid op de rechte stukken misschien wel met twintig kilometer per uur zakt. Daar staat tegenover dat we aan bochtensnelheid en tractie veel meer winnen."

  Afgezien van het rechte stuk op spanje is veel downforce vereist door de doordraaiers op snelheid. In monaco heb je die dan weer niet, maar daar zijn de foutmarges minimaal waardoor bijna aan de weg vastgekeefd wilt zitten zodat je de wagen niet te snel kwijt bent

  @hierboven. Het gaat hier om voor- én achtervleugels. Het artikel gaat over over het ontwerpen ervan en als je gewoon een standaard neus ontwerpt, plus een hoop aero, kan je misschien wel 20 verschillende combinaties maken. Zelfde geldt voor de achtervleugel.

Ik ben bang dat puur motorvermogen dit seizoen nog belangrijker wordt dan vorig seizoen. Zeker bij bepaalde circuits zullen de onderlinge verscholen groter worden.
