Rob Smedley krijgt breder takenpakket bij Williams

Rob Smedley gaat een uitgebreidere rol binnen de organisatie van Williams bekleden. Als Head of Performance Engineering was het al zijn taak om te zorgen dat de auto's rijden en in optimale conditie verkeren, maar hij krijgt daar nu extra verantwoordelijkheden bij. De Brit gaat zich ook op de middellange tot lange termijn richten voor Williams.

Smedley vertrouwde Autosport toe: "Ik zal heen en weer slingeren tussen ontwerp en aerodynamica. Maar ik kijk niet meer alleen naar de korte termijn - het aan de praat brengen van de wagens, maximaliseren van het potentieel en het in de gaten houden van hoe het team opereert. Ik zal me voortaan ook bezighouden met de ontwikkeling voor de middellange tot lange termijn."

"Het is belangrijk dat we op dat vlak stappen gaan zetten zodat we niet de rest van ons bestaan op hetzelfde niveau blijven hangen, maar ook omhoog kunnen kijken naar de regionen waar een betere performance vereist is. Dat is de belangrijkste opdracht in mijn nieuwe takenpakket. Hoe ik mijn tijd zal verdelen tussen de fabriek en het circuit is nog niet gedefinieerd."

"Dat is niet omdat we gedesorganiseerd zijn, maar omdat we eerst willen zien hoe de structuur op zijn plek valt en waar iedereen het best tot zijn of haar recht komt. Dat wordt snel duidelijk zodra de nieuwe auto is gelanceerd, dan krijgen we een beeld van waar de meeste hulp nodig is. Ik werk voor Williams en ben gepassioneerd over dit team, zoals ik als kind al was."

"Ik ben blij onderdeel uit te maken van de verjonging van Williams en blijf dat graag doen, in welke rol dan ook. Het is belangrijk om de rit uit te zitten. Ik ben toegewijd richting dit team. 2016 was een mager jaar, maar mensen die na een mager jaar niet de rug rechten en weglopen van een moeilijke situatie zijn sowieso niet de mensen waar we bij Williams op zitten te wachten."

Wat is het verschil tussen ontwerp en aerodynamica??
Alles wat je ontwerpt heeft toch een bepaalde vorm en dus een bepaalde aerodynamic en andersom of ben ik nou zo slim...

  Ik denk dat met ontwerp meer het oog zit op positie van de motor etc. (wat natuurlijk uiteindelijk ook met de aerodyn. te maken krijgt) , maar meer positie van delen en standen, en dat een aerodyn. specialist echt puur vleugels, flapjes,

  Heeft zich bij Ferrari vanuit het niets omhoog gewerkt en trok in 2006 eigenhandig Massa uit het slop wat leidde tot diens eerste gp zege in Turkije.
