Bernie Ecclestone: "Ik zou gek zijn wanneer ik een eigen raceklasse begin"

Eerder deze week werd bekend dat Bernie Ecclestone niet langer de grote baas van de Formule 1 is. Het Amerikaanse Liberty Media neemt de aandelen van de 86-jarige Brit over en daarmee komt prompt een einde aan de machtspositie van Ecclestone. De leiding in de Formule 1 wordt overgenomen door Chase Carey. Ook Ross Brawn krijgt een belangrijke rol in het nieuwe management van de sport.

Nadat Ecclestone het nieuws bevestigde dat hij niet langer de leider is van de sport, doken al snel geruchten op dat de kleine Brit vanaf 2019 een eigen raceklasse wilde beginnen onder de naam GP1. Ecclestone legde de merknaam GP1 in 2009 al vast. Ecclestone drukt de geruchten over een eigen raceklasse de kop in: "Ik zou gek zijn wanneer ik een klasse opricht die concurreert met de Formule 1. Ik ben trots op de Formule 1, ik heb er heel veel energie in gestopt."

De rol van Ecclestone in de Formule 1 is nog niet helemaal uitgespeeld. Chase Carey zou hem namelijk een functie als erevoorzitter hebben aangeboden. Bernie laat weten dat hij nog niet zo goed kan inschatten wat er precies bij die functie komt kijken: "Het is iets Amerikaans om dat te doen. Ik heb geen idee wat de functie inhoudt. "

    Kunnen hij en Ron Dennis niet Mannor overnemen, zou het wel jammer vinden om twee iconen van hun caliber te moeten gaan missen.

      zou zo maar kunnen en dan FLM Racing (F*ck Liberty Media Racing) kijken dit jaar af ontwikkelen de auto leggen er een motor in van lamborghini huren alle circuits voor 2 dagen af zodat ze kunnen testen en hun tijden langs die van de andere kunnen leggen om zo een optimaal overal test resultaten te hebben leggen Max en Bottas vast en gaan dan met die nieuwe bak volgend jaar voor in het veld mee doen hahaha

    Even terug kijken wie die geruchten dan de wereld in hebben geholpen. Dat waren `gerespecteerde` journalisten Peter Windsor en Andrew Benson en BBC Sport-hoofdredacteur Benson.

    Weten we ook weer hoe die lui erin staan.

      @crmb. Vind ook dat je de oorspronkelijke bron hierop kunt/moet aanspreken.
      Snap ook niet waarom deze normaal gesproken gedegen, vrij betrouwbare journalisten nu even uit de bocht vlogen. Maar om ze na een fout min of meer af te serveren (niet dat ik zeg dat jij dat doet!) gaat me iets te ver.

      En, aanvullend op Larry, wie weet of Bernie het minimaal niet heeft overwogen? Hij kan de mogelijkheden onderzocht hebben. Dat kan dan weer tot bepaalde geruchten leiden.

    Zo gek is de Bernie dus toch niet. Om zijn eigen F1 te gaan beconcurreren. Kost hem veel geld. Dan had hij beter de F1 niet kunnen verkopen. Hij kon toch al zijn dromen in de F1 waarmaken. Waarom dan nu op zijn oude dag nog opnieuw starten. Het was weer een broodje aap verhaal.
