Vandoorne: "Bocht 3 op Barcelona vol gas in simulator"

McLaren-coureur Stoffel Vandoorne hoopt dat de voorspellingen over de nieuwe Formule 1-auto's uitkomen. Door de nieuwe reglementen zullen de wagens veel meer downforce genereren, waardoor de rijders veel sneller door de bochten zullen gaan. Bocht 3 op het Circuit de Catalunya is voor de teams en coureurs een belangrijke graadmeter.

Vandoorne: "Ik hoop echt dat we dit jaar in staat zullen zijn om bocht 3 op Barcelona vol gas te nemen. Het is een bocht die ik in opstapklasses als de Formule Renault 3.5 vol gas kon nemen. Dat verwacht je dan ook in de Formule 1, ook al heb je hier veel meer pk's. Ik heb het alleen nog maar in de simulator uitgeprobeerd, maar afgaande op onze huidige voorspellingen zou bocht 3 op Barcelona nu vol gas moeten zijn. Of dat in de werkelijkheid ook zo is, merken we vanzelf."

"Wanneer een bocht vol gas is, denk je er niet al te veel bij na. Je kunt niet veel meer doen dan je rechtervoet naar beneden geduwd houden en een vloeiende lijn aanhouden om zo min mogelijk snelheid door wrijving met het asfalt te verliezen. De focus op gebied van versnellingsbakratio ligt dan bijvoorbeeld elders, op andere gedeeltes van het circuit, de langzamere stukken. We zullen harder werken om in die gedeeltes de maximale performance uit de auto te halen."

"Alles gaat een stapje omhoog. Snelle bochten worden vol gas bochten of bijna vol gas, gemiddelde bochten worden snelle bochten. De langzame bochten zullen ongeveer gelijk blijven, maar over de gehele linie gaat alles een stap omhoog."

      @Superspecial, dat deed Vandoorne al in 2014 :P Sterker nog, eerst buitenom in T3 en meteen erna buitenom in T4. Twee wagens voorbij in evenveel bochten. Was wel GP2 natuurlijk.

    Volgas in een McLaren is hetzelfde als half gas in een RBR/Merc... Kweet niet echt of dit soort pep praatjes er goed toe doen na de prestaties van afgelopen jaren.

    Wacht nog op het bericht van Honda dat ze weer ergens 417pk gevonden hebben... om het daarna weer in te trekken.

      Dat horen we pas 3 jaar. Als alles waar zou wezen hadden ze de 3000pk grens ergens midden 2016 al doorbroken. Ik geloof best dat Honda het kan, maar wel eerst zien dan geloven.

      Honda probeert het gewoon weer en daarvoor (met of zonder succes) verdienen ze alle respect. Waar blijven merken als: Volkswagen, Ford, BMW, Peugeot, Toyota en al die andere waardeloze merken die ik vergeet.

      @HONDRARA271, McLaren heeft gisteren een deal gesloten met BMW met als doel samen een motor te ontwikkelen. Weliswaar met de Automotive afdeling en dus niet meteen voor de F1, maar toch. Beide merken zetten hevig in op hybride technologie.
      Met Bernie en CVC eindelijk weg en met Liberty misschien een eerljkere geldverdeling, een goedkopere en interessantere sport in het verschiet, zouden nieuwe of andere constructeurs wel eens kunnen toehappen.
