'Amerikanen maken van elke sport een circus'

Willi Weber, de voormalig manager van Michael Schumacher, is niet zo positief over de komst van Liberty Media als nieuwe eigenaar van de Formule 1. De Duitser is er niet van overtuigd dat het Amerikaanse mediabedrijf goede plannen met de koningsklasse van de autosport heeft.

Weber verkondigde aan Sport Bild: "Amerikanen maken van elke sport een circus. Nu willen ze elke Grand Prix omtoveren tot mega-evenement, door beroemde acteurs uit te nodigen en de toeschouwers dichter bij de sport te brengen dan onder Bernie Ecclestone het geval was."

"Maar Amerikaanse fans zullen nooit in de rij staan voor Formule 1-kaartjes. Ze gaan veel liever ergens anders heen. Ik ben bang dat het unieke karakter van de Formule 1 verloren gaat. De nieuwe eigenaren hebben geen affiniteit met racen, ze willen alleen maar geld verdienen."

    Wat is het verschil dan met hoe het was in de jaren 50/60/70. Toen was het elk jaar het circus die in de stad was, waarbij coureurs en teams wel of niet gingen racen tot 5 minuten voor de kwalificatie.

    In Amerika kan je tenminste de handtekeningen krijgen tijdens een signeersessie, daar zitten ze dan aan een tafeltje handtekeningen uit te delen.
    Dat zouden ze ook in de F1 moeten doen.
    Het publiek en de rijders wat meer naar elkaar brengen.
    Op Spa afgelopen jaar heb ik 3 rijders kunnen zien die veilig achter een hek stonden.
    Dat waren Hamilton, Sainz en Max.
    De rest heb ik niet kunnen waarnemen.(of ik was te laat, dat kan natuurlijk ook)

      Njah, ik snap de handtekeningenjacht sowieso niet zo, maar ook bij de F1 zijn ze best te krijgen hoor. Dit soort handtekeningensessies worden regelmatig gedaan en op donderdag bij de pitwalk komen de meest coureurs wel even wat handtekeningen zetten, maar het is dan gewoon erg druk ook.

      Buiten die van max heb ik maar 1 handtekening zo gescoord: in Spa 2012 stond Vettel opeens zo ongeveer voor mijn neus, toen heb ik hem mijn petje maar even laten signeren. Mooi detail is dat het een Ferrari-petje van Raikkonen was, en destijds reden zowel Vettel als Raikkonen (RBR/Lotus) niet voor Ferrari en inmiddels dus allebei wel.

      Alsof we in europa op die handtekeningen zitten te wachten. Amerikanen zijn nou eenmaal gauw starstruck het is onderdeel van de "dream"

    Ik hoop dat de mening van Brawn gehoord gaat worden. Hij is de enige die sporen heeft in de sport F1 bij liberty. Aan de snor van Chase Carey zie je al dat het een opgepoetste circusdirecteur is.

    Ach met een beetje show is niks mis, zo lang men de focus maar niet verliest op wat werkelijk belangrijk is. Wat fans werkelijk willen kun je heel goed lezen op forums als deze. Als men te arrogant is daar kennis van te nemen en het allemaal beter weet, zal de wal het schip vanzelf wel keren (wat trouwens al jaren het geval is).

    Ja stel je voor dat de dik betalende fans in de buurt kunnen komen van de rijders!

    Neem een voorbeeld aan de Indy500....

    Entree betaalbaar, toegankelijk voor fans en veel plezier en vertier rond het circuit.

      Ook qua regelgeving trouwens. Als je ziet hoe met name Nascar dat voor elkaar heeft kan de F1 daar zeker een voorbeeld aan nemen.

    De focus moet zeker niet alleen de VS zijn want ik geloof zeer zeker dat het nooit een succes gaat worden daar.
    2 GP's in de VS is meer dan genoeg, nogmaals ze willen geld verdienen maar als ze de F1 gaan opdringen overal dan gaat het dat niet worden.
