Rosberg ontvangt Laureus Award 'Doorbraak van het Jaar'

Regerend wereldkampioen Formule 1 Nico Rosberg heeft gisteren tijdens de Laureus Awards de titel 'Doorbraak van het Jaar' in ontvangst mogen nemen. De Laureus Awards zijn de meest prestigieuze sportprijzen van het jaar en worden dan ook wel de Oscars van de sport genoemd.

Vorig jaar behaalde hij in de Mercedes dan eindelijk de wereldtitel door zijn teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton achter zich te laten. In zijn thuisstad Monaco nam hij de trofee in ontvangst en bleef hij in zijn categorie het nationaal voetbalelftal van IJsland en winnaar van de Premier League Leicester City voor.

In zijn korte speech vertelt Rosberg dat hij een gebouw verder is opgegroeid en als 14-jarig jochie naar de uitreiking keek. Hij droomde ervan om daar zelf op het podium te staan en gisteravond was het dan zover. In zijn speech heeft hij ook een boodschap voor de kijkers: "Aan iedereen die al heel lang en hard werkt om zijn droom te bereiken: als je blijft geloven en vechten dan word je uiteindelijk beloond."

Rosberg is niet de eerste Formule 1 coureur die deze eer ten deel valt. Daniel Ricciardo, Juan Pablo Montoya en Lewis Hamilton ontvingen dezelfde Laureus Award. Michael Schumacher en Sebastian Vettel werd gekroond tot Sportman van het Jaar. De Formule 1 teams Brawn en Renault kregen de prijs voor Sportploeg van het Jaar.

Het zal niet vaak voorgekomen zijn dat een sportman de prijs 'Doorbraak van het Jaar' in ontvangst neemt kort nadat hij afscheid heeft genomen van de sport.

Wat een onzin prijs! Iemand die vorig jaar tweede was en nu eerste, dan kan er toch onmogelijk sprake zijn van een doorbraak? Belachelijk m.i.

Ik hoop persoonlijk (dus mijn mening he...) , dat hij niet zich telkens met de F1 blijft bemoeien in negatieve zin. Zoals zo'n Villeneuve. Tuurlijk heeft hij ervaring en weet wat in het wereldje speelt. Maar tijden zijn veranderd en nu stoor ik me gewoon aan zown vent. (En nee, dat is niet omdat hij Max nogal eens minacht....)

  Rosberg is eerder de tegenpool van Sjakie en negatief over zijn oud-collega’s zie ik hem niet gauw doen. Lijkt me eerder een type Coulthard, Brundle of Hill.

Natuurlijk is het een doorbraak wie had nou verwacht dat hij de titel zou krijgen, maar ja beste auto van het veld en een teamgenoot die veel beter is maar helaas veel pech had wel of niet expres.

In tegenstelling tot de rest hier, ik vind het wel een enorme doorbraak: Rosberg is zo'n vreselijke coureur dat iedereen er van stond te kijken toen hij kampioen werd

  Andere juryleden kwamen uit willekeurige landen als Duitsland en Finland die in Monaco hun domicilie hebben.
