Jordan King: "Teloorgang Manor pijnlijk voor alle jonge coureurs"

De Formule 1-grid telt dit jaar slechts twintig auto's vanwege het failiissement van Manor Racing. Jordan King, voormalig reservecoureur van de kleine Britse renstal, vindt het niet meer bestaan van Manor pijnlijk voor jonge coureurs. Manor stond bekend als kweekvijver van jong talent. 

King testte drie keer voor Manor en mocht vorig jaar twee keer in actie komen tijdens een vrije training. "Ik vind het een schok voor de Formule 1 in de algemene zin, de grid wordt namelijk tien procent kleiner. Ik denk dat dat geen goede zaak is. Voor jonge coureurs wordt het nu een stuk lastiger om een plekje in de Formule 1 te veroveren."

Het omvallen van Manor raakt King ook persoonlijk. De Brit had goede papieren om dit jaar zijn racedebuut te maken voor het team, na een aantal jaren GP2 te hebben gereden: "Voor mij was Manor de beste mogelijkheid om in de Formule 1 te kunnen racen. Ik moet nu kijken naar de andere mogelijkheden. Gelukkig kent iedereen in de Formule 1 elkaar; het zou dus mogelijk voor mij moeten zijn om alsnog Formule 1 te kunnen rijden."

King begint komend seizoen aan zijn derde seizoen in de GP2. De 22-jarige King verruilt Racing Engineering voor het Nederlandse MP Motorsport.

    Wat veel pijnlijker nu is. Dat je als rookie nu in een Sauber moet starten. Oude motor en oude auto. Alleen de verf v is nieuw.

      oude motor is niet zo zeer slechter denk ook niet dat ferrari 150 pk extra in de 2017 motor de eerstehelft zal je nog wel mee kunnendoen.... voor de budget is momenteel gezonder denk

    Gemiste kans voor Mercedes om hetzelfde concept op te zetten als Red Bull met Torro Rosso heeft gedaan. Toont aan dat Mercedes er niet voor de eeuwigheid bij blijft!

      Nee hoor, Mercedes is een A-merk voor auto's...heeft meer te verliezen als het met een B-merk achteraan rijdt...daar heeft een blikjesfabrikant geen last van.

      Mercedes kan zoveel "B-merken" gebruiken als naam.

      Wat mij zorgen maakt is dat het team verdwijnt en de ontwikkelde 2017 wagen de schuur in gaat en er over een jaar een veiling komt voor de onderdelen (ala catherham).

      is voor mercedes juist goedkoper jonkies te stallen met hun motoren :) en geeft ze wat miljoenen voordeel, dan een gans F1 onderhouden waar 10 dubbele van kost minimaal levert niet zozeer iets op

    Grid wordt minder dan 9% kleiner. 1% maakt het verschil tussen top en flop... King hoort dus bij de laatste groep.

    Manor was een nieuw team waar toevallig wat rookies gereden hebben.
    Een kweekvijver voor nieuw talent was het echt niet. Hebben ze al een race winnaar naar voren gebracht, een kampioen? Niets van dat.

    Manor had voor mij mogen blijven, maar ze als kweekvijver bestempelen is niet juist. Daar zouden ze nog een aantal jaar langer voor op de grid moeten hebben staan.

      Ligt eraan hoe je het bekijkt. Het is wel zo dat jonge talenten eerder de F1 in kunnen komen en ervaring op kunnen doen. Dan ben je ook een kweekvijver voor talent, ook al kan zo'n renstal niks presteren an sich, jonge talenten kunnen zich wil ontwikkelen binnen de F1.

    King is gewoon niet goed genoeg voor de F1.
    Via zijn pa had hij misschien een kansje om via Manor in de F& te raken maar dze strohalm is nu helaas voor hem weg gevallen.
    Er staat een lading andere en betere piloten te wachten om in deze hoogste klasse te raken.
    En dan denk ik aan Charles Leclerc, Oliver Rowland, Alexander Rossi, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris en Antonio Giovinazzi.
