James Allison terug in de paddock bij team van Mercedes

James Allison is terug in de paddock en draagt de kleuren van Mercedes. Allison volgt daarmee Paddy Lowe op die aan de slag gaat bij het team van Williams, al is hij daar nog niet gesignaleerd.

Allison moest noodgedwongen zo'n beetje heel vorig seizoen aan zich voorbij laten gaan. Zijn vrouw Rebecca kwam in maart plotseling te overlijden en nam de tijd om dit verlies samen met zijn drie kinderen te verwerken. Vervolgens werd eind juli bekend dat hij en Ferrari uit elkaar zouden gaan.

Teambaas van Mercedes, Toto Wolff, over de komst van Allison: "Zijn kunde en persoonlijkheid passen uitstekend bij het team." De Duitse renstal wilde Allison al eerder aan het team verbinden: "Wij dachten al lange tijd dat hij de juiste man was voor ons type organisatie, maar hij was niet beschikbaar."

Volgens Wolff is Allison erg gemotiveerd en zal het team hem helpen om weer verder te gaan, refererend aan de tragedie van vorig jaar.
