Di Grassi: "Singapore wellicht onze grootste kans op top twaalf"

Naast de spannende titelstrijd aan kop is er ook achteraan de grid een gevecht bezig. Lotus F1 Racing, Virgin Racing en in mindere mate Hispania Racing strijden om de titel van beste nieuwkomer in 2010. Geen van die drie renstallen scoorde tot nu toe punten. Lotus F1 Racing staat er dankzij een dertiende plaats het beste voor op de tiende plek.

Virgin Racing aast op die positie en coureur Lucas di Grassi ziet mogelijkheden op het stratencircuit van Singapore. De Braziliaan liet aan Autosport weten: Wanneer een van de nieuwe teams een twaalfde klassering behaalt, dan stijgt die renstal naar de tiende stek. Het is dus een belangrijk weekend voor ons. Ik besprak net met mijn engineers nog hoeveel we voor deze race nieuw hebben, hoe groot onze upgrade is. Hopelijk is het genoeg zodat we het gevecht met Lotus F1 Racing aan kunnen.

Het plan is om de andere nieuwe teams te snel af te zijn en hopen op de juiste omstandigheden voor een mooi resultaat. Singapore is misschien de langste race van het seizoen, want we rijden gewoon meer dan driehonderd kilometer en de gemiddelde snelheid ligt laag. Bovendien is het heet. Betrouwbaarheid is een issue hier. Incidenten en ongelukken zijn ook iets, en het weer is veranderlijk. Dit is dus wellicht onze beste kans op een top twaalf klassering.

Betrouwbaarheid is een issue hier en laat virgin daar nu juist niet in uitblinken.Een 12 plek wie van de oude teams willen ze verslaan.

Naja, hij zegt toch .. betrouwbaarheid is een groot verhaal hier. Buiten dat gaat het waarschijnlijk regenen tijdens de race. Ik zie er wel een stuk of twaalf afstuiteren in Singapore onder die omstandigheden. Dat lukt in Canada of Monaco soms al zonder regen. Pech voor Di Grassi is dat ik hem er ook wel zie afvliegen.
