Ferrari neemt belang in F1-eigenaar Liberty Media

Het team van Ferrari heeft haar aandelen in de Formule 1 ingewisseld voor aandelen in de nieuwe eigenaar van de sport - Liberty Media - en een som geld. Dat schrijft Christian Sylt in The Guardian. De Scuderia beheerde 0,25 procent van de aandelen in de koningsklasse van de autosport.

Ferrari heeft die verkocht voor een aandelenpakket in Liberty ter waarde van 3,1 miljoen dollar, plus een bedrag van 11,4 miljoen dollar aan cash. De Italiaanse renstal is het eerste team dat gebruik maakt van de mogelijkheid om een belang te nemen in de nieuwe eigenaar van de Formule 1.

Liberty stelde begin dit jaar in totaal 1,1 miljard dollar aan aandelen beschikbaar voor de tien teams. Geen van de renstallen ging op dat aanbod in. Liberty heeft nu opnieuw een aandelenpakket van 400 miljoen dollar beschikbaar gesteld, met juli als deadline. Ferrari heeft nu wel toegehapt.

In een rapport van de Scuderia staat: "Als gevolg van de machtsovername in de Formule 1 heeft Ferrari de opties verkend en op 22 februari 2017 heeft Ferrari 11,4 miljoen dollar, 145.000 aandelen in Liberty Media Corporation en 911.000 dollar aan obligaties in Liberty verkregen."

    Bernie heeft dat destijds ook gedaan met de rechten. voor 100 duizend dollar geloof ik, konden de teams zich inkopen. geen enkel team deed dat des tijds omdat ze voor die 100 duizend dollar ook konden testen.

    Nu doet liberty hetzelfde, met een verschil dat de teams geen inspraak krijgen. (iets dat bij Bernie wel het geval was) Aan de andere kant, wie weet krijgen de teams in de toekomst wel inspraak. Dan heb je al wat aandelen als Ferrari zijnde.

    Dit geeft ook een politiek signaal af. Hiermee verbindt Ferrari zich meer met de F1.

      Vroeger hadden de teams wel de televisie rechten, maar ze zagen het meer als een last. Bernie heeft de rechten in 1979 geloof ik voor 30.000 dollar gekocht, geen enkel team had enkele interesse in deze televisie rechten. Wat Bernie de jaren daarna heeft gedaan weten we allemaal, de F1 is nu de grootste race klasse in de wereld.

      Andere race klasses hadden geen Bernie, terwijl volgens Max Mosley de WRC meer potentieel had dan de F1.

    NEE! Ferrari is dus (nog) NIET ingegaan op de deal van Liberty Media aan alle teams.
    Ferrari had al aandelen in F1 en bij de overname door Liberty Media heeft Ferrari voor die aandelen deels geld gekregen en deels aandelen in Liberty, zodat Ferrari dus ook na de overname aandelen heeft in F1.

    Dit staat los van de mogelijkheid voor de teams om aandelen te kopen (zonder inspraakmogelijkheid zoals 'normale' aandeelhouders).

    Ik ga stuk, eerst $1100m aan F1-aandelen gereserveerd voor de teams.
    Na geen enkele interesse (waarom ook, deze aandelen hebben geen voting rights / geven geen inspraak), wordt dat gereduceerd tot $400m.
    En waar hebben we uiteindelijk over, buiten de cash component.. gedeeltelijk omgewisselde, niet nieuw aangeschafte aandelen á $3.1m.
    Liberty heeft zichzelf weer schromelijk overschat
