Toro Rosso: "Betrouwbaarheid nog zwakke plek"

Scuderia Toro Rosso-teambaas Franz Tost leeft vol vertrouwen toe naar het nieuwe seizoen, al geeft hij toe de betrouwbaarheid van de auto op dit moment nog te wensen over laat. Het opleidingsteam van Red Bull had tijdens de tests in Barcelona veel last van problemen, maar op de slotdag op Circuit de Catalunya wist coureur Carlos Sainz wel maar liefst 132 ronden af te leggen.

Een positieve afsluiter, maar dat neemt de zorgen over de betrouwbaarheid niet gelijk weg. Tost: "Na twee voorbereidingstests in Barcelona kan ik bevestigen dat de STR12 een snelle en competitieve auto is. De betrouwbaarheid is nog een zwakke plek, we hebben te vaak met kleine mankementen te maken gehad. Het positieve is dat we de situatie hebben verbeterd ten opzichte van de eerste testweek, maar ook tijdens de tweede week verloren we te veel kostbare tijd door problemen."

"Het goede nieuws is dat we weten waar de problemen vandaan komen en het is niets groots, nothing major. Ik ben vol vertrouwen dat we ze voor Australië op kunnen lossen. Carlos Sainz en Daniil Kvyat hebben uitstekend werk geleverd en ons van bruikbare feedback voorzien. Onze engineers zullen de data analyseren om de set-up te optimaliseren voor Melbourne. Ik verheug me op komend seizoen, ik reken op een interessant gevecht in de middenmoot."

Sainz voegt toe: "Ik denk eerlijk gezegd dat meer teams een grote sprong hebben gemaakt ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Force India, Haas F1, Renault met name. Williams vliegt, zij zagen er erg snel uit en zullen lastig te verslaan zijn. Het wordt dus dringen voor de vijfde plek in het kampioenschap of voor de rol van op vier na snelste team bij de Australische Grand Prix. We zullen dan ook niet zomaar in Q3 terecht komen."

Op een andere site die niet bij naam genoemd mag worden, bevestigde de directeur van Renault vanmorgen, dat RedBull op aandringen van Renault de afgelopen weken met een geknepen motor moest rijden. Omdat er problemen waren met de ICU (welke in Melbourne verholpen moeten zijn).

En dat de performance die wel gemeten is, zelfs boven de hoge verwachtingen uit komt. Maw, RedBull zou gewoon vooraan mee moeten kunnen doen. En als dat bij RedBull kan, zou STR met hun mooie ontwerp ook hoge ogen kunnen gooien.

  In dat zelfde bericht zei hij ook dat het vrij kritieke issues zijn met termen als 'fairly confident' dat ze de race wel uitrijden.. maar zeker weten ze het niet.
  Die ERS problemen zagen ze al op de dyno en nu moeten ze nog steeds een aanpassing doen die ongetest op het circuit 'hopelijk' werkt in Melbourne.
  Ik vond het maar een hoop doet leven verhaal vanuit Renaut, dus laten we maar hopen op een goede uitkomst dan voor RBR, STR en Renault fabrieksteam
