Adelaide onderzoekt terugkeer van de Grand Prix

De Australische stad Adelaide zou in de toekomst graag weer de Formule 1 ontvangen. De gemeenteraad heeft er bij de provincie South Australia op aangedrongen om de mogelijkheden om de Grand Prix van Australië terug te kapen van Melbourne te verkennen. Adelaide was in 1995 voor het laatst gastheer van een Formule 1-race.

Gemeenteraadslid Alex Antic zegt in The Advertiser: "Zouden we de Grand Prix weer kunnen organiseren? Er kleeft de nodige nostalgie aan de Formule 1-race in Adelaide en iedereen in de gemeenteraad wist zich die dagen nog wel te herinneren, dus ik ben blij dat we de provincie gaan verzoeken om dit op zijn minst te onderzoeken. We willen gewoon weten of het haalbaar is en of we een voorstel in kunnen dienen."

De plannen van Adelaide schoten de lokale minister van Toerisme, Leon Bignell, al eerder in het verkeerde keelgat. "De mensen in deze gemeenteraad wekken de meeste woede op in South Australia. Als ze zo nodig de Grand Prix willen hebben, laat ze dan geld investeren zodat we de tribunes sneller op kunnen bouwen. Daar zouden hun belastingbetalers blij mee zijn."

"Ze moeten een voorbeeld nemen aan Bathurst. De gemeenteraad daar pompte 6 miljoen dollar in het circuit. Die clowns in Adelaide steken er 50.000 dollar in en vragen ons vervolgens om 100.000 dollar. Ze zijn heel bedreven in klagen en hun handje ophouden, maar ze weigeren om zelf in de buidel te tasten om hun belastingbetalers te helpen. We zijn niet geïnteresseerd in de Grand Prix."

Het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne vormt sinds 1996 het decor voor de Australische Grand Prix. Dat contract loopt nog tot en met 2020.

Zo, ze hebben daar in ieder geval een minister die glashelder is over de manier waarop Adelaide denkt budgetfree dit van de grond te kunnen trekken....☺

even puur over de gp, ik zou graag de seizoens afsluiter weer in Adelaide zien. Vond het altijd een gaaf en sfeervol evenement.

Zolang Melbourne het wil doen, lekker daar blijven zou ik zeggen. Prima circuit en het is dé sportstad van Australië. Ik heb in Adelaide gewoond en dat was vrij kleurloos, dus liever noet

Het seizoen openen in Melbourne en afsluiten in Adelaide. Dan is de cirkel rond en is vrijwel iedere F1 fan blij. Alaaf!
