Zandvoort brengt 'sporttechnische zaken' op orde

Volop actie op Circuit Park Zandvoort deze week. De werkzaamheden om het circuit van een nieuwe laag asfalt te voorzien zijn begonnen. Voor het eerst in ruim vijftien jaar is het circuit overgenomen door frees-, asfalteer- en walsmachines. Bijna het gehele baanoppervlak en de paddock krijgen dit jaar, in drie fasen, een nieuwe laag. Een monsteroperatie waarbij 14.500 ton asfalt wordt uitgestreken over de 4.300 meter lange baan. Na het circuit en de pitstraat zelf, worden in oktober de werkzaamheden afgerond en ook in Paddock 2 van een nieuwe asfaltlaag aangebracht.

De investering past in de ambitieuze plannen die de nieuwe eigenaren hebben. Bernhard van Oranje: "Willen we met nieuw elan het circuit gereed maken voor de toekomst, dan is het erg belangrijk dat we sporttechnisch onze zaken op orde hebben. We ontvangen dit jaar vele honderdduizenden racefans en diverse topklassen op het circuit. We willen onze rijders en gasten onder de best mogelijke omstandigheden faciliteren en asfalt is een essentieel onderdeel daarin. We vonden het belangrijk om de baan voor het drukke raceseizoen weer in optimale conditie te hebben om klaar te zijn voor onze toonaangevende evenementen als de Jumbo Familie Racedagen, ADAC GT Masters, DTM en de Historic Grand Prix."

Roland Kleve, de nieuwe algemeen directeur van Circuit Park Zandvoort, vult aan: "Het is geweldig om de tientallen machines en vele vakmensen op het circuit hun werk te zien doen en de walsen door de Tarzanbocht te zien kruipen. Het personeel van De Jong Zuurmond en ons team doen er alles aan om een perfecte baan neer te leggen zodat de coureurs binnenkort onder optimale omstandigheden snellere rondetijden kunnen neerzetten."

Gerrit Zuurmond is namens zijn bedrijf De Jong Zuurmond verantwoordelijk voor deze operatie: "Ons team rijdt de hele dag met een grote glimlach om de mond over het circuit. Ze vinden het geweldig om een bijdrage aan de toekomst van het circuit te leveren en kunnen niet wachten om de eerste races op het circuit zelf bij te wonen. Doordat we ongestoord 24 uur per dag aan de slag kunnen op het circuit lukt het ons om snel meters te maken, zodat we met deze intensieve werkzaamheden de racekalender van het circuit niet in de weg zitten."

Indrukwekkende stats, wist niet dat bijna het gehele baanoppervlak opnieuw een asfaltlaag krijgt. Het was wel redelijk hard nodig, zeker het niet verlengde deel was behoorlijk versleten. Denk dat het verder niet zoveel zegt over een mogelijke toekomstige terugkeer van de GP van Nederland, daar is zoals iedereen weet veel meer voor nodig.

F1 zullen we er denk ik niet terug zien, gezien het wegennet om zandvoort. Echter ben ik wel hoopvol voor een F1 GP op een andere nederlandse lokatie. (Lees de ijselmeer polders)

Het asfaltpuingranulaat graag strooien langs de baan zodat je als bezoeker niet door het mulle duinzand hoeft te ploegen.
