Franse Grand Prix trekt aanvraag voor merknaam in

De terugkeer van de Grand Prix van Frankrijk op de Formule 1-kalender heeft een verrassende wending genomen. FormulaPassion.it heeft namelijk van betrouwbare bronnen vernomen dat de organisatie het verzoek voor de registratie van de merknaam heeft ingetrokken.

Op 5 december van het afgelopen jaar kwam de bevestiging dat de Franse Grand Prix vanaf 2018 weer onderdeel uitmaakt van het schema, met een race op Paul Ricard. Op 13 januari is vervolgens een aanvraag ingediend bij de Europese Unie voor de intellectuele rechten op de merknaam 'Formula 1 Grand Prix de France'. Die aanvraag is nu echter weer ingetrokken.

Het is vooralsnog gissen naar de beweegredenen achter dit besluit. Het vastleggen van een merknaam geldt als een fundamentele stap op weg naar de organisatie van een Formule 1-evenement.

    Formula 1 is een merknaam van de Formula 1 Group, voorheen Liberty enz.
    Niemand zou de naam 'Formula 1 Grand Prix de France' kunnen gebruiken zonder hun toestemming. Het apart vastleggen van die naam is niet nodig en waarschijnlijk zelfs niet mogelijk.
