Vettel opgetogen en voorzichtig op weg naar 2017

Sebastian Vettel en het team van Ferrari hebben een voorspoedige voorbereiding op het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen achter de rug. De nieuwe auto van de Scuderia was vanaf het begin meteen snel en betrouwbaar, waardoor de Italiaanse renstal veel meters heeft kunnen maken tijdens de tests. Dit tot grote tevredenheid van Vettel, al blaast de Duitser niet direct hoog van de toren.

De viervoudig wereldkampioen verkondigde aan Sport Bild: "Uiteraard gaan we voor de titel. Als ik dat gevoel niet zou hebben, zou ik niet eens op de grid plaatsnemen. Het enige dat ik verder kan zeggen is dat er een fijne sfeer heerst binnen het team. Iedereen werkt in het belang van Ferrari. Het is onmogelijk te voorspellen waar dat toe zal leiden. De tests geven slechts een indicatie, pas na drie of vier races kun je wat over de verhoudingen zeggen. In de Formule 1 tellen alleen de resultaten."

Die resultaten waren tijdens de wintertests dusdanig dat Red Bull Racing-coureur Daniel Ricciardo concurrent Ferrari en Vettel goede kansen toedicht. "Vanaf de eerste dag liet Ferrari een goede indruk achter. Ik hoop dat ze het volhouden, het zou mooi zijn als iemand de strijd met Mercedes aan kan gaan. Ferrari heeft zich op alle punten verbeterd en ze ogen ook sterk op deze banden. En ik weet dat wanneer Vettel een goede auto heeft, hij de sterkste kan zijn."

En Red Bull Racing dan? Hield de werkgever van Ricciardo veel achter de hand tijdens de tests? "Dat mocht ik willen. In identieke omstandigheden staan we in de buurt van de beste teams, maar we zijn er nog niet. Vroeg of laat zullen we voor de beste plekken meedoen, hopelijk in Melbourne al. We verkeren in een goede vorm, maar hebben nog een klein beetje meer snelheid nodig. Zou het niet prachtig zijn als drie teams voor de titel strijden dit jaar?", aldus de Australiër in Gazzetta dello Sport.

Minimaal drie teams voor podium plaatsen, en een heel groot sterk middenveld .... Wordt echt leuker dan vorigjaar.... Tenzij de renault motor onbetrouwbaar is,,, dan wordt het gelijk een stuk minder met zes Renaultpowered cars (en een wrakke honda engine)

  Klopt, maak me echt zorgen over de RB,, met name de aandrijflijn,, niet genoeg snelheid, mogelijk te hoog brandstofgebruik , en betrouwbaarheid is onduidelijk...

De Scuderia verdient weer eens een wereldtitel; goed voor F1, goed voor ons fans.

Vettel: “Er heerst een fijne sfeer binnen het team.”
Ja, wat bij andere teams normaal is heerst nu bij Ferrari ook: kalmte en rust, totdat er probleempjes voor doen en er extra druk op de ketel komt. Dan steken de bekende Italiaanse praktijken weer de kop op: paniek en fout op fout.
Voor Sebastian en formule1-fans kunnen we alleen maar hopen dat het lang goed blijft gaan.

Of Ricciardo speelt mooi weer en is overdreven sportief of hij heeft deze winter harde klappen van een kangoeroe gehad, want natuurlijk hoopt men bij Red Bull stiekem of niet dat Ferrari en Mercedes de boel toch niet zo goed voor elkaar hebben als het lijkt.
