Steiner: "Onze wagens betrouwbaarder dan anderen"

Vorig jaar zorgde Haas F1 voor een kleine verrassing door tijdens het debuut gelijk een zesde plaats te scoren. Het was het beste debuut van een Formule 1 team sinds 2002, Mika Salo eindigde met Toyota ook op een zesde plaats. Dit seizoen gaat volgens sommigen lastiger worden voor het team, maar daar gaat Guenther Steiner niet in mee.

Op de website van het team zegt Steiner: "Het tweede seizoen is niet per definitie lastiger dan het eerste, maar velen voorspelden dat wij tegen grote problemen zouden aanlopen. Dat dachten ze vorig jaar ook, maar ook dit jaar was de vorig jaar erg goed."

Betrouwbaarheid groot pluspunt Haas-bolide

Steiner was erg tevreden over de betrouwbaarheid van de VF-17. Alleen de pace van de auto moet consistenter zijn volgens de teambaas, dat was nog te wisselvallig tijdens het testen. Maar de betrouwbaarheid daar draait het om volgens Steiner: "Tijdens de test zagen wij dat veel teams problemen hadden maar wij waren betrouwbaar, zeer betrouwbaar. Als wij dat in de eerste race volhouden kunnen wij punten halen als anderen problemen krijgen."

Op de vraag wat hij wil bereiken in Australië is hij duidelijk: "Punten!"

De bolides van het team van Haas F1 worden nu in Groot Brittannië klaar gestoomd voor Australië. Ze krijgen een nieuw likje verf en de technici gaan door alle data verzameld in Barcelona heen om de juiste setup te vinden voor Australië.

Dat zou goed mogelijk kunnen zijn, alleen iets met remmen was het geloof ik, ook niet geheel onbelangrijk op een F1 karretje, al draait de motor nog zo goed, gaan alle luchtcirculaties de goede kant op, als zo'n auto niet wil remmen lijkt het mij een lastig verhaal.

  Alleen Grosjean heeft af en toe problemen dus wat dat betreft valt het nog mee. Al is ideaal natuurlijk anders.

  Brawn was niet een geheel nieuw team, dat vanaf nul begon. Die hadden gewoon de ontwikkelde Honda auto voor 2009 overgenomen, met een Mercedes motor. In dusverre heeft hij wel gelijk.
