Ecclestone en Carey tegenstrijdig over onderling contact

Dat uitspraken van prominenten in de media niet helemaal met elkaar stroken is niet nieuw. Sterker nog: bijna dagelijkse kost. Maar wat Formule 1-baas Chase Carey enerzijds en Bernie Ecclestone anderzijds zeggen ligt wel heel ver uit elkaar.

'Zij willen duidelijk mijn advies niet'

Carey heeft aangegeven dat hij nog regelmatig contact heeft met de Godfather van de Formule 1: Bernie Ecclestone. In The Times geeft hij aan één of twee keer per week contact met hem te hebben om 'onbetaalbare' inzichten te krijgen over de Formule 1.

Maar Ecclestone heeft een hele andere versie en zegt: "Ik koester geen wrok en zou ook met alle plezier helpen. Waarschijnlijk had ik een hoop mensen veel tijd en geld kunnen besparen met mijn waardevolle contacten, maar ze willen duidelijk mijn advies niet."

Ecclestone kon niet veranderen

De voormalig Formule 1-baas heeft regelmatig verteld dat Liberty Media hem eigenlijk als directeur wilde behouden, maar het was Carey die volledig de teugels in handen kreeg. Carey hierover: "Gezien de wijze waarop hij jarenlang iedere beslissing controleerde, tot en met toegangspassen voor de paddock, leek het ons moeilijk voor te stellen dat hij kon veranderen. Wij willen de Formule 1 nou eenmaal op een andere manier runnen."

Toch is er contact geweest aangezien de Ere-voorzitter zelf heeft gezegd dat hij door Liberty Media is gevraagd om in Brazilië te bemiddelen teneinde de Grand Prix voor de kalender te behouden.

@Atlaz Ik weet niet of ik de carrière van Ecclestone op die manier zou samenvatten ;) Die tweedehands autoverkoper heeft wel iets meer gedaan om de F1 op de kaart te brengen:)

  Ecclestone is niet de 'uitvinder' van de Formule-1, maar een handige 'tweedehands autoverkoper'. Bernie heeft een destijds een 'tweedehands' F1 gekocht, en het getuned en opgepoetst om het daarna voor veel geld weer door te verkopen. ?

bernie heeft een drol net zolang gepoetst tot hij blonk na jaren tentoonstellen is de glans er nu wel een beetje vanaf .
tijd dus om die drol ten gelde te maken en iemand anders te laten poetsen .
bernie is heel slim en lacht als laatste , hij weet hoe lastig het is een drol te laten blinken

Ik geloof best wat carey zegt hier, ik kan me zo voorstellen ..wil je een toegangspas voor de paddock , geen probleem mits een kleine donatie aan Bernie him self.. Denk dat Carey hier in het algemeen naar zulke toestanden en praktijken van Bernie verwijst . Het leek ons moeilijk voor te stellen dat hij kon veranderen is dan zacht uitgedrukt denk...ze weten het gewoon dat hij niet veranderd is denk ik dan,zeker wanneer je hem deze functie of macht geeft.
