Amazon maakt documentaireserie over McLaren

McLaren slaat de handen ineen met Amazon Prime voor een documentaireserie over het seizoen 2017 en in het bijzonder de verrichtingen van Stoffel Vandoorne. De Belg is afgelopen weekend in Australië begonnen aan zijn eerste volledige jaar in de Formule 1. In de serie van Amazon Prime zullen unieke beelden van achter de schermen te zien zijn.

De cameraploegen van Amazon Prime hebben van McLaren toestemming gekregen om in de winter al het ontstaan, de presentatie en het testen met de nieuwe MCL32 te filmen. Gedurende het voorbereidingen volgde de crew Vandoorne op de voet en dat zal de rest van dit seizoen zo blijven. Een releasedatum en de titel voor de documentaireserie zijn nog niet bekend.

McLaren-directeur Zak Brown: "Bij McLaren willen we elk element van de Formule 1 tentoon spreiden. We snappen dat Formule 1-fans altijd verlangen naar meer toegang, inzichten en informatie over en vanuit de sport die zij zo liefhebben. Deze documentaireserie zal hen voorzien in die behoefte en een niet eerder vertoond, intiem en eerlijk inkijkje bij een modern Formule 1-team geven."

Manish Pandey is gestrikt als producent voor de documentaireserie over McLaren en Vandoorne. Hij produceerde eerder de veelgeprezen documentairefilm over Ayrton Senna.

    Leuk initiatief. Nu hopen dat de docu net zo weg kijkt als je jongensboek, na een zeer moeizame eerste seizoenshelft het tweede deel aanvangen met een tweede plaats op je thuis circuits. Of zoiets ;-).

    Aan zo iets heeft McLaren al eens eerder meegewerkt: "The Team - A season with McLaren". Dat gaf toen een prachtige inkijk in het seizoen dat Michael Andretti voor McLaren kwam rijden. Vooral de verschillen in feedback die Andretti en Senna gaven zijn me altijd bijgebleven (Senna kon precies van ieder bocht aangeven hoe een nieuwe motor spec daar anders was. Andretti kwam niet verder dan schouderophalend "just the same").
