Hoofdengineer Force India legt uitdagingen Shanghai uit

Tom McCullough van Force India blikt op de website van het team vooruit op de Grand Prix van China die gehouden wordt in Shanghai. De lange rechte stukken gaan een belangrijke rol spelen volgens de Hoofdengineer van het team.

Topsnelheid cruciaal, maar...

McCullough: "Shanghai is een mooi, traditioneel circuit, heel anders dan Melbourne. De set-up afstellen is een compromis, omdat je een sweet spot moet creëren die over alle sectoren genomen de maximale prestatie geeft." Hij geeft hierbij aan dat topsnelheid cruciaal is op het lange rechte stuk, maar dat aerodynamica van belang is in de bochten zeven en acht die elkaar snel opvolgen.

"Aan de andere kant zijn er ook een aantal langzame bochten en grote rem-zones waar goed ingehaald kan worden", zo zegt McCullough. Hij geeft in 3 punten weer waar de uitdagingen voor het team van Force India liggen:

De lange rechte stukken vereisen een gladde auto met lage weerstand
Langen bochten zijn een uitdaging voor de banden
Grote inhaalmogelijkheden in de lange rem-zones

Vriend en vijand was het er over eens dat Force India beide auto's goed in de punten kreeg op basis van de gekozen tactiek. Laten andere teams zich weer verrassen door de Pink Panthers?

  Stiekum hoopte ik dat de rechter niet alleen Rens failliet verklaarde (wat ook gebeurde) maar dat hij en passant Ratelband ook nog even een onvoorwaardelijke TBS met dwangverpleging op zou leggen. (Wat dan weer niet gebeurde)

Je zou het circuit dus als het ware en als je er even wat verder en heel goed over nadenkt wellicht kunnen vergelijken met een uitgebreide Chinese rijsttafel, mits goed bereid een heerlijke dis. ;)
