Liberty gebruikte mantelbedrijven voor aanschaf F1

Liberty Media heeft voor de overname van de Formule 1 enkele lege BV's opgericht om zo minder tot geen belasting te hoeven betalen. Dat schrijft journalist Christian Sylt in The Herald Scotland. Liberty vestigde twee zogenaamde mantelbedrijven in Schotland, genaamd Liberty GR Foreign Holding Company I LP en Liberty GR Foreign Holding Company II LP.

Beide bedrijven hebben geen bedrijfsvoering, maar vertegenwoordigen wel de waarde van 8 miljard dollar waarvoor Liberty de Formule 1 heeft overgenomen. Deze constructie wordt vaker gebruikt. Niet alleen door grote bedrijven om belasting te ontlopen, maar ook door criminele organisaties om geld wit te wassen. En officieel heeft Liberty Media niets onwettigs gedaan.

De timing van dit verhaal is echter wel ongelukkig, nu in Groot-Brittannië een steeds luidere roep voor een onderzoek naar speciale belastingregelingen met grote firma's klinkt. Ook hierin geldt de Formule 1 als voorbeeld; moederbedrijf Delta Topco droeg in het afgelopen decennium slechts 100 miljoen pond aan belasting af over een winst van ruim 4 miljard pond.

Dat zijn erg gunstige tarieven, vond ook Liberty Media. Het mediabedrijf presenteerde de belastingstructuur tegenover de aandeelhouders zelfs als een van de sterke punten van de Formule 1. Liberty Media wilde geen commentaar geven over de mantelbedrijven, maar de Britse politica Anneliese Dodds maakt zich sterk voor actie.

"Dit is weer een bewijs van de mazen in de wet van het belastingsysteem waar grote bedrijven en individuen gretig misbruik van maken. We moeten dit soort lege vennootschappen en andersoortige constructies transparant maken om degenen die de belasting proberen te ontwijken in kaart te brengen en aan te pakken", aldus Dodds.

Het is ook aan de politiek om dit soort constructies onmogelijk te maken... snap dat verontwaardigde toontje van politici nooit zo goed...

  Het is juist andersom. Politici maken express dit soort constructies mogelijk voor dat soort bedrijven. Als dan hun politieke carrière voorbij wordt met met open armen ontvangen voor een ere baantje bij die bedrijven. De opvolger kan dan lekker verontwaardigd reageren om er vervolgens niets aan te (willen) doen.

  Politiek gaat niets uitmaken. Ze betaalde maar 100 miljoen, maar zouden ze niet akkoord zijn gegaan dan hadden ze aan een ander land 100 miljoen betaald. Dus het is beetje belasting pakken of niets, zelfde geld voor NL. Doe je als land moeilijk dan gaan ze wel weer naar een bananenrepubliek.

  @mr.rofl klopt, en ieder land doet het bewust. Kijk wat er nu in de krant staat wat de Ned. belastingdienst doet. Politici hebben er alleen maar baat bij. Na de politiek willen ze weer het bedrijfsleven in. We noemen dat de `Revolding door`politiek. Ze worden rijkelijk beloond door grote Multi nationals. We gaan steeds meer naar een samenleving waarbij de belastingen worden betaald door de mensen en de grote bedrijven betalen steeds minder. Waarom denk je dat er steeds meer financiele druk komt op ons sociale stelsel. En dit zie je overal in Europa en de USA. De CEO`s worden beloond met honderden miljoenen maar belasting betalen ho maar.

LB heeft niets verkeerd gedaan, aldus de wet, maar heeft gebruik gemaakt van een maas die de opstellers van die wet erin hebben gehouden/gemaakt.
Oftewel bewust of on bewust, nu word er "gebruik" van gemaakt en zijn ze boos.

Hoe komt het toch tegenwoordig als je een fout maakt, je de schuld bij een ander legt.
Althans dit lijkt in de politiek een standaard procedure te zijn.

Mevrouw Dodds kan zich maar beter druk maken over echte kapitaalvlucht door de Brexit dan ook nog eens de criminaliserende beeldvorming van een journalist te omarmen, die niet snapt dat spreiding van bezit over meerdere vehikels allerlei verstandige legitieme redenen kan hebben, zoals risicospreiding of betere verhandelbaarheid, of om differente beleidsdoelstellingen te realiseren.

Dat Liberty dit alleen maar doet om belasting te besparen is niet onderbouwd en volkomen uit de lucht gegrepen. Maar zelfs als dat zo zou zijn, is dat een volkomen correct bedrijfsbelang.

Terwijl door de Brexit de existentie in GB van een miljardenindustrie op het spel staat doet mevrouw de poltica er nog een schepje bovenop met een stupide actie tegen de belanghebbende exploitant, hoe stom kun je zijn!
