Sao Paulo zet het circuit van Interlagos te koop

Sao Paulo moet de broekriem aanhalen en heeft daarom het circuit van Interlagos te koop gezet. De privatisering van de baan in de Braziliaanse stad maakt onderdeel uit van een bezuinigingspakket ter waarde van 1,8 miljoen pond. Bernie Ecclestone zou een van de gegadigden zijn om het circuit van Interlagos over te nemen.

Joao Doria, burgemeester van Sao Paulo, verwacht dat de voormalig commerciële baas van de Formule 1 wel een bod uit zal brengen. "De privatisering van Interlagos dient juist als garantie voor onze Formule 1-race. Ik begrijp dat de Grand Prix belangrijk is voor Sao Paulo en Brazilië, maar dan wel met privaat geld en niet met publiek geld. Het is voor een private partij heel goed mogelijk om het circuit draaiende te houden."

De koop van Interlagos komt inclusief toestemming om de faciliteiten op te waarderen en een hotel, luxe appartementen en een Ayrton Senna-museum te bouwen. Doria sprak er reeds over met Ecclestone. "Bernie heeft belangstelling getoond. Hij gaat participeren in het proces om het circuit te kopen. Ik heb de indruk dat internationale investeringsfondsen mee gaan bieden. Ik twijfel er niet aan dat we Interlagos kunnen verkopen, en voor een goede prijs ook."

Liberty Media

Ecclestone is er zelf nog niet uit of hij een bod uit gaat brengen, maar hij gaat ervan uit dat nieuwe Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media zich gaat mengen in de veiling. "Sao Paulo wil Interlagos verkopen. Ze willen niks meer subsidiëren, ze stoppen geen geld meer in het circuit. Ze willen er vanaf. Ik heb nog geen beslissing genomen of ik de baan ga kopen of niet. We zullen zien. Liberty Media zal ook met de gedachte spelen om Interlagos over te nemen."

Mooi project voor prins Bernhard. Ff een haalbaarheid studie eroverheen om te zien of het mogelijk is het circuit in gedeelten naar Zandvoort te halen en dan in 2025 weer een NL gp!

  Even praktisch gedacht: wanneer Ecclestone het koopt wat gebeurt er dan met het circuit na Bernie?
  Kortom, laat snorremans van Liberty Media het maar opkopen want de Braziliaanse GP mag nooit verdwijnen, het is al jammer genoeg dat Argentinië al jaren niet meer op de kalender staat.

1,8 miljoen, valt opzich ook nog wel mee vind ik.
ik heb het niet maar toch.
F1 moet betaalbaarder worden voor de fans en daarom wil (of is verstandig) dat Liberty circuits koopt. Als Bernie dat circuit dan koopt wordt het er toch niet beter op toch??
onder het mom van in your face Liberty..?

  1,8 miljoen is misschien relatief gezien niet veel, maar er moet ook een hoop gebeuren daar voordat de baan en faciliteiten weer helemaal top zijn.

Ik vrees dat het redelijk snel gedaan is met deze baan :( De gemeente wil er vanaf omdat er al veel te lang door de overheden met geld gesmeten wordt in Brazilië. Zonder Braziliaanse coureur zijn de tribunes echt heel snel heel leeg. Ik hoop zo dat ik ernaast zit, maar ik ben er totaal niet gerust op dat we over 5 jaar nog een Braziliaanse GP hebben. Liberty, doe er wat aan.

Begrijp dit wel niet zo goed, Sao Paulo is toch 1 van de drukst bezochten dacht ik ?. En ergens rond top 3 met hoogst aantal bezoekers ?. En toch nog zoveel problemen.
Van Bernie heb ik het gevoel dat hij niet enkel dit circuit op zijn naam wil schrijven , maar een hele reeks andere ook ( zou dit ?). En hoe gaat het dan met onderhandelingen met Liberty :).

Als dat weer perspectief biedt dat deze GP blijft bestaan lijkt me dat een prima oplossing. Ik denk wel dat het handig is wanneer Bernie besluit deze baan te kopen dat er prijs afspraken worden gemaakt met Liberty City voor meerdere jaren... Zeg maar 10 of 15 jaar. F1 is tegenwoordig toch minder populair dan voorheen en wanneer de F1 aantrekt en Bernie geld ruikt heeft hij er een handje van om de prijzen te vierdubbelen!
