Wehrlein waagt in Bahrein nieuwe poging om te racen

Het verlossende woord is eruit; Pascal Wehrlein is fit genoeg bevonden en heeft toestemming gekregen om komend weekend in Bahrein te racen. De Duitser moest de eerste twee Grands Prix van 2017 verstek laten gaan omdat hij herstellende was van een rugblessure.

Over die blessure lopen de lezingen uiteen. Wehrlein sloeg bij de Race of Champions in Miami in januari over de kop en zou daarbij haarscheurtjes in een van zijn ruggenwervels opgelopen hebben. Sauber-teambaas Monisha Kaltenborn wist alleen nergens van.

Vrijdag keert Wehrlein echter terug in de auto en zo krijgt hij de kans om eindelijk zijn eerste race voor Sauber af te werken. Hij begon drie weken geleden ook vol goede hoop aan de Australische Grand Prix, maar moest toen na de vrije trainingen op de vrijdag al afhaken.

Antonio Giovinazzi verving hem in Australië en in China. In Melbourne deed de Italiaan dat met verve, Sjanghai was een weekend om snel te vergeten. In Bahrein is het aan Wehrlein om te laten zien wat hij waard is met de Sauber C36.

      Welnee, GIO was gewoon een tijdelijke vervanger, niets meer. Wehrlein heeft vorig jaar al ruimschoots bewezen dat hij een stabiele en snelle coureur is...vooral in de races. Goede keuze om juist bij deze race terug te komen: Bahrein is voor de nek niet superzwaar...weinig snelle bochten en veel rechte stukken om 'uit te rusten'.

      Denk dat FER ook liever niet had dat GIO meer als 2 GP's zou rijden, want dan zouden ze hem zelf niet meer in mogen zetten in de Young Driver Tests, waar hij wel voor ingepland stond en dan zouden ze terug moeten vallen op Leclerc.

      Anderzijds zou hij wel waardevolle ervaring op kunnen doen als hij meer GP's rijdt.

    Succes en heel veel sterkte. Conditioneel hoop ik dat hij het gaat volhouden indien men die 40 graden luchttemperatuur gaat bereiken. Je kan een hoop doen in 3 weken maar of je wonderen kan verrichten? Gaan het vrijdag wel zien.

    Ik denk dat die uiteindelijk hetzelfde gaat proberen als in Australië maar nu wel racen en uitvalt vanwege fysiek..

    Ondertussen kachelt Marcus lekker door en geen haan die naar zijn prestaties kraait. (18e en 15e)

    Wel mooi dat geen enkele wagen op meer dan 1 ronde staat van de winnaar vooralsnog. Die tijden zijn voorbij vooralsnog (wie mist Manor op het moment nog)

      Ik...belachelijk dat die niet mee meedoen! Voor een multimiljonair is 6 ton toch gewoon wisselgeld!?! Ik had ze graag gesponsord met 1 miljoen en dan stond er op de auto: "This car is sponsored by Wibi!" (maar heb geen 6 ton).

      Een extra week relatieve rust + training + intensieve medische verzorging kan al heel wat uitmaken. Denk dat China misschien al had gekund, maar bij dit soort blessures wil je iets meer zekerheid hebben.

      Daarnaast ben je nog altijd afhankelijk van het groene licht van de medische staf.

      Het is alleen maar politiek geneuzel. Heeft niets met blessures of zo te maken. Dat verhaal rammelt aan alle kanten. Wel kunnen testen met gebroken wervels maar niet kunnen racen, waarbij Gio wel zo kon instappen. Het verhaal ging toen helemaal niet over de rugwervels of die wel/niet gebroken zouden zijn, maar omdat meneer Wehrlein moe was, of eigenlijk bang was moe te worden, nog erger. Ik weet niet meer wie het hier schreef, maar iemand legde het verband met de motorleverancies voor volgend jaar. Dat lijkt me een veel betere verklaring. ook het feit dat wanneer Gio wel weer zou racen dat hij dan niet meer voor Fer kon gaan uitkomen, denk niet dat en sauber noch fer wil hebben. maw er spelen allerlei andere zaken op de achtergrond, het fijne weten wij er niet van, incl mijzelf niet, maar dat het om een blessure zou gaan..., neuh hoor.

      Zou ook te maken KUNNEN hebben met de motorleverancier (Ferrari) die eens 2 races de prestaties van hun coureur wilden testen met het oog op de toekomst. Aangezien WEH toch een 'ongelukje' heeft gehad was dit een mooie afleiding om GIO te kunnen testen op kwaliteiten om te racen. Australië was erg goed en in China nam (waarschijnlijk) GIO teveel risico en spinde.... dat wordt het dus niet bij Ferrari en WEH mag weer instappen. Wat ook mee zal tellen is dat GIO niet meer dan 2 races mag rijden anders is hij geen testrijder meer en kan niet ingezet worden....zo slecht is hij nu ook weer niet...
