Pirelli maakt testprogramma voor banden 2018 bekend

Het seizoen 2017 is nog maar twee races oud, maar bandenfabrikant Pirelli is nu al bezig met de ontwikkeling van de banden voor het seizoen 2018. De Italiaanse bandenfabrikant heeft via een persbericht bekend gemaakt wanneer de testsessies plaats vinden. In tegenstelling tot vorig seizoen zullen alle teams de kans krijgen om de nieuwe banden aan de tand te voelen.

De eerste testsessie van het jaar vindt volgende week plaats op het Bahrain International Circuit en Ferrari zal Pirelli een dag ondersteunen bij de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe banden. Uit het persbericht blijkt dat Pirelli een uitgebreid programma heeft samengesteld, iedere maand zullen een of twee teams de banden aan het testen onderwerpen.

Pirelli zal bij de tests zowel testen met de droogweerbanden als met banden die in natte omstandigheden worden gebruikt. Om de banden in natte omstandigheden te testen wordt uitgeweken naar de circuits van Paul Ricard en Magny Cours, deze circuits bevatten een beregeningsinstallatie. Red Bull Racing en McLaren zullen deze testsessies afwerken, maar werken ook een test af met de droogweerbanden.

Nieuw in het testschema van Pirelli is dat er ook daags na enkele Grand Prix getest zal worden. De locaties voor deze tests zijn: Bahrein (18-19 april), Barcelona (16-17 mei), Silverstone (18-18 juli), Budapest (1-2 augustus), Mexico City (31 oktober - 1 november) en Sau Paulo (14 november - 15 november).
