Lewis Hamilton: "Het gaat niet alleen om de start"

Lewis Hamilton wordt nog even rondgereden op het circuit en Sky Sports F1 is erbij als hij zijn fans begroet. Hamilton oogt erg relaxt en maakt nog even een reclame voor Bahrein.

"Ik heb geweldige fans hier en het is zo’n mooie race in zo’n mooie plaats. Het is waarschijnlijk de meest rustige week van het jaar en het weer is hier altijd geweldig. En toch komen er te weinig mensen naar deze Grand Prix, dus aan iedereen die kijkt: als je ooit naar een Grand Prix wil komen, dit is echt een geweldige om te bezoeken. Kom deze kant op voor een romantisch weekend gecombineerd met een leuke race."

"Het gaat niet alleen om de start"

Op de vraag of er een strijd komt op de voorste rij in aanloop naar de eerste bocht, een afstand van 400 meter, zegt Hamilton: “Valtteri deed het geweldig gisteren en vandaag is het een lange weg richting de eerste bocht. Ik ga mijn focussen op weer een goede start, daar werk ik het hele jaar al aan. Maar het draait niet alleen om de start, het is een erg lange race met zware omstandigheden. Het is wel wat minder warm maar de wind is erg sterk vandaag, kijk naar de vlaggen hier.

Het interview is ongeveer anderhalf uur voor de race en Hamilton wordt gevraagd wat hij nu nog gaat doen. “Ik ga zo naar mijn kamer, wat rekoefeningen doen, muziek luisteren en een aantal aantekeningen doornemen die ik gisteren al had bekeken maar nog even wil doornemen.”

Nee, het toverwoord is bandenmanagement. Dat is zo slecht bij Mercedes en helemaal bij een overgewaardeerde coureur zoals een Hamilton die eigenlijk beter op zijn plaats is in de hiphop wereld . Ik moet nog maar zien of Mercedes überhaupt wel goed zal starten want ook daar zijn ze niet altijd even goed in. Zo, dat lucht op... :)

  Dat is precies wat Ricciardo zegt. Niet dat hij een overgewaardeerde coureur is, maar dat de banden een rol gaan spelen.
