Ross Brawn: "Samenwerken met Ecclestone had ik niet gekund"

Ross Brawn vormt sinds dit jaar samen met Chase Carey en Sean Bratches het management van de Formule 1. Het trio werd begin dit jaar gevormd toen Liberty Media de commerciële rechten overnam van Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestone had de Formule tot en met 2016 tientallen jaren met succes geleid.

In een interview laat Ross Brawn weten dat een samenwerking tussen hem en Ecclestone waarschijnlijk nooit succesvol geworden zou zijn. Niet omdat hij Ecclestone niet mag, maar puur vanwege de aanpak die Ecclestone altijd hanteerde: "Het klopt dat een samenwerking tussen mij en Bernie Ecclestone waarschijnlijk niet succesvol was geweest. Ik ben meer van het plannen en de lange termijn gedachte, terwijl Bernie vaak ad hoc beslissingen nam en reageerde op het moment dat het moest. Anno 2017 vraagt het leiden van een globale sport als de Formule 1 een totaal andere aanpak."

Met de komst van Liberty Media is er al veel veranderd in de Formule 1. Zo is de sport een stuk opener geworden voor de fans en wordt er veel meer gedaan met social media. Volgens Brawn hanteert Liberty Media een heel andere aanpak dan het vorige management: "Bernie en zijn mensen reageerden pas als er al een crisis was uitgebroken. Wij denken veel meer vooruit en zullen continu kijken hoe wij de sport beter kunnen maken. Ook zullen we adviseren waar nodig omtrent de regelgeving."

    Vooralsnog niets dan lof voor Liberty Media. Ik heb nog niet het idee dat Bernie en consorten erg gemist wordt bij zowel teams, coureurs als de fans.

    En er wordt meer gedaan met social media???
    koekkoek, heb ik iets gemist? of is het enige dat de teams geen waarschuwing krijgen eer dat iemand wat vanaf zijn mobiele telefoon streamed. Ik wacht op 360 cameraview tijdens de races vanaf de auto die je zelf wilt volgen. 360gr Camera's in de pit garages en langs de circuits waar je zelf je camera kan uitkiezen die je wilt volgen.

    Samenwerken had van beide kanten niet gewerkt. Een totaal andere aanpak. Bernie heeft de F1 tot iets geweldigs gemaakt. Grote klasse. En nu neemt Liberty het stokje over met een wat modernere aanpak. En deze ontwikkeling is lijkt mij ook niet verkeerd. De instelling van Bernie en nu van Liberty lijkt mij goed. De F1 moet de Koningsklasse van de autosport blijven. Niet stilstaan maar groeien.

    Tja, Brawn is van de lange termijn ,elke dag een plannetje... Dat schiet lekker op.... Lijkt er op dat Brawn beter politicus had kunnen worden.... Valt me tot nu toe erg tegen, plannen genoeg maar weinig daadkracht....

      Als het 'beruchte' schrijffoutje is aangepast zit er nu nog minstens 1 in... wat trouwens geen schrijffout is, maar dat terzijde. Het is mij opgevallen dat niemand dat ziet..

    Bernie was al even over zijn houdbaarheidsdatum heen en leidde vooral als een dictatortje ‘zijn’ geldfabriek.
    Zeker heeft hij de F1 ook het één en ander gebracht maar iedereen is vervangbaar en zover we een inschatting kunnen maken is de F1 er met Liberty Media op vooruit gegaan.
    Natuurlijk kan men over drie, vier jaar nog betere conclusies trekken.
