Hamilton ziet racen in het donker in New York wel zitten: "Gaaf!"

Dat Liberty Media zijn pijlen richt op de Verenigde Staten is geen geheim inmiddels. Miami, New York en Las Vegas worden genoemd als mogelijke steden voor een race en Long Beach start een onderzoek naar de haalbaarheid van een Formule 1-race. Maar er gaan steeds meer geluiden op dat New York de beste papieren heeft en Chase Carey noemde een race in de Big Apple 'een prioriteit'. Dat zou dan een nachtrace moeten gaan worden en dat ziet Lewis Hamilton wel zitten.

Racen bij zonsondergang

Hamilton: "Racen in New York zou erg gaaf zijn. Een tweede Grand Prix in de Verenigde Staten is gewoon noodzaak. Het zou geweldig zijn, het is een prachtige stad." Dat is wel duidelijk: Hamilton wil in New York racen.

Hamilton noemt New Jersey als een prima plaats om de Grand Prix te rijden. "En of het dan een avondrace is.... Ik denk dat zelfs een race overdag goed zou zijn. Of 's avonds bij zonsondergang en dan met New York op de achtergrond, dat zou gaaf zijn."

Dat hij blij is om weer in New York te zijn steekt hij ook nooit onder stoelen of banken, zoals ongeveer een jaar geleden:

    Donker? Is het hier toch al een het worden door het tijdverschil en is het daar mooi in de middag. Als jullie in het donker gaan rijden (vanaf ongeveer 22.00 uur) is het hier midden in de nacht!! Moet iedereen om 03.00 uur uit bed, omdat meneer Hamilton zo graag in het donker wil rijden....zeer slecht idee!

      Het grootste deel van de F1 kijkers zit in Europa, dus lijkt mij inderdaad niet handig van Liberty om dan een race op zondag nacht (CET) uit te gaan zenden. 's ochtends vroeg op staan op zondag is minder erg, dan maar een halve nacht slaap als je maandag weer aan het werk moet.

      @ F1fan1993, de reactive van Wibi gaat misschien wat ver, maar zonsondergang (vandaag om 19:49 locale tijd in NY) met 4 uur tijdsverschil betekend toch echt dat het hier nacht werk is om de race te kijken.

      Je kunt toch in het artikel lezen dat Hamilton een race overdag ook 'gaaf' vindt?

    Uhm, in het donker? Gaan ze lampjes monteren op de wagens zoals bij LMP1 bijvoorbeeld? Nee er zal zoveel kunstmatig licht zijn dat je het nauwelijks als nachtrace zal kunnen bestempelen.

      Tuurlijk, het heeft uitstraling, ben ik met je eens. Maar er is geen echte uitdaging zoals s'nachts racen bij Le Mans. Dan is het ook echt donker en nog erger, verschillende klassen door elkaar. Als je het van die kant bekijkt, zijn de F1 coureurs wel heerlijk verwend ;-)
