Stoffel Vandoorne had natuurlijk niet echt de noodzaak om goed te kwalificeren aangezien hij een grid penalty van 15 plaatsen heeft gekregen nadat er weer onderdelen van de motor vervangen moesten worden.

Als hij klaar is na Q1 staat hij de media te woord: "We wisten dat we achteraan zouden starten dus we moeten kijken wat we morgen kunnen doen. Het gaat voor ons lastig worden om in te halen morgen, maar in een lange race kan er van alles gebeuren. Hopelijk hebben we een betere dag morgen."

De Belg vertelt dat ze ondanks de problemen ieder weekend meer leren over de auto. Maar ze realiseerden zich ook dat Rusland vergelijkbaar zou zijn met het begin van het seizoen. Op de vraag of ze nu al weten wat de problemen precies zijn zegt Vandoorne: "Eerlijk gezegd weet ik het eigenlijk niet. Het is ook eigenlijk een vraag voor Honda, voor ons is het gewoon afwachten."
