Sebastian Vettel: "Dit is echt een teamprestatie"

Voor het eerste sinds Singapore 2015 start er weer een Ferrari van pole. Op het Sochi Autodrom reed Sebastian Vettel de snelste tijd, teamgenoot Kimi Raikkonen start als tweede. Vettel laat weten erg blij te zijn met de eerste volledige startrij voor Ferrari sinds Magny-Cours 2008.

Geen foutloze kwalificatie

In de persconferentie laat Vettel weten dat niet de hele kwalificatie op rolletjes liep: "In het eerste deel voelde ik me comfortabel in de auto, maar in Q2 verloor ik wat ritme en maakte ik wat foutjes. De eerste run in Q3 was niet helemaal niet goed, ik moest het dus doen in de laatste ronde. In de eerste sector zag ik dat ik sneller was dan mijn teamgenoot, maar ik wist dat het krap zou worden. Ik was de eerste die de vlag kreeg en vroeg constant aan het team of ik de snelste tijd nog in handen had. Toen ik hoorde dat ik de pole had was ik natuurlijk helemaal in de wolken."

Echt een teamresultaat

Vettel laat ook weten dat de eerste startrij van Ferrari het resultaat van goed teamwork is. Volgens de Duitser is Ferrari al het hele seizoen goed bezig, maar kwam dat in de kwalificaties nog niet altijd naar voren: "Dit resultaat is te danken aan het harde werk van het team. Ik ben erg blij dat we dit voor elkaar hebben weten te krijgen. We gaan het nu even vieren, maar over een paar uur gaat de knop om voor de race van morgen. Het is mooi dat we nu op de eerste rij staan, maar de race is pas morgen. Onze snelheid in de lange runs is goed, ik heb er vertrouwen in."
