Niki Lauda: "Mercedes verruilt Formule 1 niet voor Formule E"

Niki Lauda heeft ontkend dat Mercedes in de toekomst een keuze zal maken tussen de Formule 1 en de elektrische raceklasse Formule E. 

Op dit moment zijn er veel teams waaronder Mercedes die in de toekomst een plaats in de Formule E reserveren en dat zou volgens sommigen samen kunnen hangen met nieuwe regels omtrent motoren die vanaf 2021 van kracht worden. 

Maar Lauda is duidelijk tegen Speed: "Wij deden het (het reserveren van die plaats, red.) om strategische redenen, maar wij blijven in de Formule 1. Er is geen discussie bij ons ons of de Formule E een alternatief is is voor de Formule 1."

Formule-E is de toekomst. De milieueisen zullen ook voor circuits qua geluid en uitlaatemissie steeds strenger worden en met de afnemende olievoorraden is er geen reëel alternatief anders dan elektrisch rijden.     Maar wel de opties open houden, dus de kans dat Formule E op termijn de overhand krijgt is er dus wel. Want als merk kun je niet achterblijven als de straatauto's wel in meerderheid elektrisch zijn.

      Formule 1 word vanzelf Formule E, tenzij er weer een andere manier van aandrijving komt, maar zal nooit een naamsverandering ondergaan.

      FE is gewoon een testbuis voor de F1 en als er genoeg draagvlak is stapt de F1 ook over op alternatieve manier van aandrijving.

      Zolang er olie uit de grond gepompt wordt zal de F1 met verbrandingsmotoren rijden. Het zwarte goud zal tot en met de laatste druppel verkocht worden.

      Het enige wat elektrisch rijden tegenhoud is het verdienmodel van onze overheid en die van de rest van de wereld.

    Lauda zegt hier dus dat Mercedes ook na 2020 nog in de F1 zit, heb eerder nog wel eens twijfels gehoord wat dat betreft, ook het kamp zelf.

      Lauda is natuurlijk iemand van de vorige generatie en simpel in dienst van Mercedes. Lijkt mij dat hij hooguit adviseur is voor de toekomstige koers. Waar de jeugd heel makkelijk elektrisch rijden zal accepteren, zal het voor oudere generaties altijd een verandering met nostalgische kantjes zijn.

      Lauda is naast adviseur ook aandeelhouder @Rick.
      Niki is het tegenovergestelde van een simpel loopjongetje en heeft wel degelijk veel zeggenschap bij Mercedes Sport.

    Ondertussen heeft Niki een klere hekel aan de FE maar beseft hij dat Mercedes het er in de toekomst waarschijnlijk wel bij zal móéten doen.
