Monisha Kaltenborn wil franchise systeem voor de Formule 1

Sauber-teambaas Monisha Kaltenborn vindt dat het in de toekomst een franchiseformule mogelijk moet zijn voor teams in de Formule 1. Volgens Kaltenborn zou het voor teams in het midden van het veld een lange termijn toekomst in de sport betekenen.

In VS niet ongebruikelijk

Kaltenborn deed haar suggestie in de GP Gazette en zegt daarbij dat het in grote Amerikaanse sporten geen ongebruikelijk model is. "Voor mij is het belangrijkste dat de waarde van de sport en die van ieder team verbeteren zal. Idealiter willen wij een situatie waarbij het lastig is om in te stromen, maar als je eenmaal binnen bent je een bepaald inkomen krijgt," aldus Kaltenborn.

Teams moeten kunnen overleven

Volgens Kaltenborn moet de angst voor teams dat ze niet kunnen overleven in de sport worden weggenomen doordat ze genoeg inkomen uit de sport krijgen om een team te kunnen runnen. "Je hoeft geen enorme winst te maken, maar eentje die je in staat stelt om concurrerend te zijn. Misschien niet voor de top 3, maar wel als je rond plaats 10 zit", zo sluit zij af.

Hoge bonussen voor top teams

Op dit moment is de situatie andersom en zijn het de teams die al heel lang meedraaien (en daarmee over het algemeen de top teams) een bonus ontvangen. Voordat ze nog maar 1 ronde hebben gereden zijn ze gegarandeerd van een fors inkomen. Ferrari kreeg in 2016 105 miljoen dollar als bonus, Mercedes en Red Bull Racing ontvingen 74 miljoen dollar. De andere twee teams die een bonus kregen waren McLaren (32 miljoen) en Williams (10 miljoen).

Eerder dit jaar werd vanuit Liberty Media al geopperd dat de bonusregeling wel eens op de schop kon gaan.

Als het mevrouw Kaltenborn financieel goed uitkomt, vind ze het sowieso een goed idee ( kijk maar naar haar coureurs )

De grote teams gaan bijna niets inleveren, anders stappen ze er gewoon uit, daar zullen ze mee dreigen. En zo kunnen ze dat de komende jaren gewoon tegen houden.

Daar zitten wel praktische problemen aan vast. Als je alleen maar kant en klare onderdelen koopt en in een weekend een vleugel 3 of 4 kapot rijdt ben je klaar voor dat weekend. Je bent dan wel even afhankelijk van je leverancier voor urgente onderdelen terwijl je die in de oude situatie zelf kan maken.

En de F1 verliest een stukje glans met een Franchise formule.

Die bonussen zijn ook van de gekken, maar ja doe er maar iets aan de teams hebben de boel mooi in de tang.....

  In dit geval zou een organisatie franchisegever zijn en de kosten naar FIA, LM en anderen voor haar rekening nemen en daarna hoofdelijk omslaan naar de franchisenemers waarbij het voordeel van grote inkoop door de franchisegever doorwerkt naar de franchisegever. Minder kostren dus, maar ook minder gezeur want dat wordt door de franchisegever allemaal geregeld. Uiteindelijk KAN dit goedkoper uitpakken voor de franchise gerelateerde F1-teams.

Franchise systeem.. hmm, als McDonalds nog twijfels over sponsoring had dan zijn die twijfels een stuk minder geworden. Franchise kennen ze als geen ander en wellicht komt er ook een drive-in optie bij tijdens de pit-stops. Zullen de Amerikaanse vrienden van Liberty ook niet erg vinden.
