Winnaar eSports-competitie krijgt contract bij McLaren

Het team van McLaren start met een bijzondere competitie waarbij een mooie prijs op het spel staat, genaamd World's Fastest Gamer. Samen met partners Logitech G, GT Academy-oprichter Darren Cox, GIVEMESPORT en Sparco laat de Britse renstal de beste gamers het virtueel tegen elkaar opnemen. De winnaar van de eSports-competitie verdient een éénjarig contract als simulatorcoureur bij McLaren.

Experts in zowel gaming als de Formule 1 selecteren zes van de tien finalisten. De overige vier finalisten zullen afkomstig zijn uit online kwalificatie-evenementen in de zomer. De finale vindt in de herfst plaats in het McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. De gamers zullen diverse games op meerdere platforms moeten beheersen, hun kennis op gebied van engineering moeten demonstreren en aan moeten tonen dat ze in teamverband kunnen werken.

McLaren-directeur Zak Brown: "Dit is een geweldige mogelijkheid. Niet alleen voor de gaming-industrie, maar ook voor iedereen bij McLaren en de autosport in zijn algemeen. We hebben de wereld van online sportgames de afgelopen jaren een vlucht zien nemen en de grenzen tussen de virtuele wereld en de werkelijkheid zijn vervaagd. Daarom is dit het juiste moment om deze unieke en opwindende competitie op te zetten."

"World's Fastest Gamer is erop gericht om de beste virtuele racer ter wereld te vinden. De competitie is niet beperkt tot één game of één platform, we verwelkomen een ieder die hieraan deel wil nemen. De winnaar zal echt deel gaan uitmaken van het team van McLaren. Dit is geen geintje, we hebben meer mankracht nodig voor onze twee simulators. De competitie en de selectieprocedure worden dan ook streng, meedogenloos en aangrijpend om te volgen."

Ik vind het een leuke ontwikkeling dat teams ook richting het gamen gaan. Hierdoor bereik je een groot aantal nieuwe fans die je anders nooit zou bereiken. Met voetbal blijkt dit ook een groot succes.

  Nou ik speel f1 2016 en als je op "realistic performance" rijdt kan je echt wel motor problemen krijgen. Ook de drs kan uitvallen. Ik had die motor problemen vooral in een Torro Rosso en Renault. Dan begon men auto aan de achterkant te roken en verloor ik veel power op rechte stukken en scherpe bochten met optrekken.

  Assetto corsa iracing en rfactor zijn errug goed, PC is gewoon slecht. physics zijn niet slecht maar de collision physics zijn vreselijk, de AI heeft niet door waar de rest rijdt, en de game werkt nog steeds niet op een controller
