Ecclestone reageert kalmpjes op kritiek van opvolger

Bernie Ecclestone trekt zich de kritiek van opvolger Chase Carey over zijn beleid voor de Formule 1 van de afgelopen jaren niet echt aan. Carey beweerde dat Ecclestone alleen maar met de korte termijn bezig was en dat in de Formule 1 een cultuur was ontstaan om overal bij voorbaat al nee tegen te zeggen. Onder Ecclestone was de ware potentie van de sport niet benut.

Ecclestone reageert daar tegenover Press Association Sport gelaten op. "De enige reden waarom ik ergens nee tegen zei is omdat ik dan dacht dat het geen goed idee was en dat het ons niets op zou leveren. En dat van die focus op de korte termijn is het enige waar ik jaloers op ben bij Chase, dat hij dat niet schijnt te hebben en ik wel."

"Ik beheerde het bedrijf om winst te maken en de waarde van de Formule 1 te vergroten omdat grootaandeelhouder CVC Capital de boel wilde verkopen. Ik handelde dus in opdracht van, niets meer en niets minder. En misschien heb ik wel dingen over het hoofd gezien."

"Hopelijk weet de Formule 1 weer een stijgende lijn in te zetten. Ik wil niet meemaken om iets waar ik meer dan veertig jaar aan gebouwd heb en een groot deel van mijn leven aan besteed heb ten onder te zien gaan. Ik zou het geweldig vinden om te kunnen zeggen dat het fantastisch gaat met de Formule 1 en dat ik daar een rol in heb gehad."

Bernie je hebt de sport gemaakt waar het is , maar onderweg heb je ook een boel verneukt en flink je zakkengevuld. Ooowja 8 miljard maakt toch een hoop goed ,niet dan Bernie ???

Bernie moet gewoon een standbeeld hebben, zonder zijn commercieel beleid was de F-1 al lang een stille dood gestorven.. Grote publiek heeft géén idee hoe het hele circus inelkaar steekt en roept dingen die helemaal niet de verantwoording van Ecclestone zijn (geweest) Allerhande FIA regels of technische regels die afgedwongen zijn door de grote fabrikanten, drammers zoals Ferrari,of Mercedes, RB, als we ons zin niet krijgen stoppen we er mee... Valt me elke keer weer op dat teveel mensen, het grote publiek ,denkt dat Ecclestone overal verantwoordelijk voor is/was...

  Je hebt misschien gelijk hoor, maar het is een beetje koffie dik kijken hoe de F1 er zonder Bernie had uitgezien. Hij heeft in een vroeg stadium al alle macht naar zich toe getrokken . Er zijn ongetwijfeld ook mensen geweest die goede dingen wilde realiseren in de f1 maar die door Bernie vakkundig aan de kant geschoven werden of letterlijk uitgeschakeld zijn. Je weet nooit met zekerheid hoe het nu zou geweest zijn 2x beter of 2x slechter ? . We beoordelen de f1 zoals we hem nu kennen en daar heeft hij zeker een groooot ! aandeel in. Maar zoals in de natuur... dingen zoeken hun weg he.. Er hadden vast en zeker andere mensen(kunnen ? willen!) opgestaan in de loop der jaren en wie weet hoe het nu dan geweest zou zijn.
