Juridische problemen Vijay Mallya hebben geen invloed op Force India

Door de sterke prestaties van Force India wordt haast vergeten dat teambaas Vijay Mallay weinig kan bijdragen aan het team door de juridische problemen waarin de Indiase zakenman verkeert. Het paspoort van Mallya is ingenomen waardoor hij niet vrij mag reizen. India heeft Engeland ondertussen gevraagd of het Mallya kan uitleveren.

Door de problemen van Mallya is Bob Fernley de laatste twee jaren de teambaas van het Brits-Indiase Force India. Hoewel Fernley op papier nog steeds als vice-teambaas werkzaam is, is de rol van de Brit de afgelopen anderhalf jaar groter geworden. Volgens Fernley hebben de problemen van Mallya geen invloed op het Formule 1-team.

"Natuurlijk spelen de speculaties rondom Vijay Mallya al enkele jaren, maar het heeft absoluut geen impact op het Formule 1-team. Vijay doet wat hij kan, ondanks dat hij zelf maar een Grand Prix per jaar mag bezoeken", aldus Fernley in gesprek met het Franse magazine Auto Hebdo.

Force India doet het met een van de kleinste budgetten op de grid meer dan uitstekend. Afgelopen seizoen werd de formatie keurig vierde en momenteel bezet het ook de vierde plaats bij de constructeurs, voor fabrieksteams Williams en Renault.

Volgens mij dat voor het laatste zo geweest in de tijd van dat zij met BMW motoren reden halverwege de jaren '00.
