Felipe Nasr: "Maak me zorgen om toekomst Braziliaanse F1-coureurs"

Wanneer Felipe Massa afgelopen winter niet had besloten om zijn pensioen nog eventjes uit te stellen, dan had er dit jaar geen Braziliaanse Formule 1-coureur op de startopstelling gestaan. Massa besloot in te gaan om in te gaan op het aanbod van Williams om nog minimaal een jaar door te gaan toen Valtteri Bottas werd overgenomen door Mercedes. Felipe Nasr, oud-coureur van Sauber, maakt zich zorgen om de toekomst van Braziliaanse Formule 1-coureurs.

Nasr verloor zijn stoeltje eind vorig jaar toen geldschieter Banco do Brasil besloot om Nasr en Sauber niet langer financieel te ondersteunen. Nasr hoopt volgend jaar terug te keren op de grid, maar beseft zich ook dat dat een lastige klus gaat worden. Het is inmiddels acht jaar geleden dat een Braziliaan een race heeft gewonnen en voor de laatste wereldtitel gaan we zelfs terug tot begin jaren '90 toen Artyon Senna zijn laatste titel won.

"Natuurlijk maak ik me zorgen, er staan te weinig Brazilianen op de grid. Ik maak me ook zorgen om de jongere generatie, om ver te komen in de autosport is geld nodig. We kunnen het niet laten gebeuren dat er geen Brazilianen meer meedoen in de sport. Ik weet zeker dat de overheid dat ook ziet, we moeten doorgaan met het zoeken naar jonge coureurs", aldus Nasr in gesprek met Autosport.

Nasr debuteerde in 2015 in de Formule 1 bij het team van Sauber, nadat de Braziliaan in 2014 een rol als testcoureur bij Williams vervulde. De beste prestatie van Nasr is een vijfde plaats in zijn debuutrace in 2015. Nasr behaalde dat knappe resultaat op het Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne. Vorig jaar redde Nasr het seizoen van Sauber door in zijn thuisrace als negende over de meet te komen en over Manor heen te wippen in het constructeurskampioenschap.

Klopt niet helemaal, hij heeft in 2014 de sprintrace in Barcelona gewonnen en voor zover ik weet is dit maar 3 jaar geleden. Desalniettemin acht ik hem niet van een fantastisch hoog niveau.

  Beetje eenzijdig allemaal. Het circus draait ook al weer lange tijd zonder noemenswaardige Japanse of Italiaanse inbreng. Ook Fransen en Belgen hebben in het verleden lang droog gestaan, om niet te spreken van nog oudere leveranciers als Argentinie, Zweden, Zwitserland enz.

Tja, als die brassiliaanse coureurs wat harder rijden komen ze heus wel de F1 in. Zo moeilijk is het niet. Aan Nasr zou ik zeggen, even een tandje harder rijden, dan komt het heus wel goed. Neem Max maar als voorbeeld. Die rijdt wel harder.

De Brazilianen zijn in het verleden ook flink verwend met uitstekende coureurs natuurlijk, maar op het moment heb je inderdaad nog even Massa en verder eigenlijk alleen Sérgio Sette Câmara in de F2. Buiten Nasr zelf.
