Valtteri Bottas: "Aanpassen aan engineers sleutel tot succes"

Na meer dan tachtig Grand Prix lukte het Valtteri Bottas vorige week om zijn eerste zege in de Formule 1 te behalen. De Fin kwam afgelopen winter over van Williams als vervanger van de gestopte Nico Rosberg. Volgens Bottas is de sleutel tot het succes het aanpassen aan zijn engineers.

Bottas kreeg bij aanvang van het seizoen het team van engineers van Nico Rosberg aangewezen. Het komt wel eens voor dat coureurs een of meerdere engineers van hun oude team meenemen om zich snel aan te kunnen te passen aan hun nieuwe werkomgeving.

Omdat de overstap van Bottas naar Mercedes laat tot stand kwam, had Bottas die mogelijkheid niet. Toch lukte het de 27-jarige Fin om snel op snelheid te komen bij zijn nieuwe werkgever: "Ik besloot na mijn overstap naar Mercedes mezelf aan te passen aan mijn engineers. Van hen kan ik veel leren en zij weten het beste hoe het team werkt. Mercedes heeft een andere benadering voor briefings, nieuwe systemen en nieuwe regels. Ik moest me dus min of meer aanpassen om snel te integreren binnen het team."

Bottas geeft ook toe dat hij niet echt heeft aangedrongen bij zijn oude team Williams om engineers en monteurs mee te nemen naar Mercedes: "Ik wilde direct werken met de ervaren mensen binnen Mercedes, aangezien zij het team het beste kennen. Ik kon snel mezelf zijn binnen het team en het team waardeert het dat ik open en eerlijk ben wanneer er iets niet goed gaat. Ik denk dat die aanpak het beste gaat werken, al heb ik natuurlijk nog wat in te halen op Lewis Hamilton."

Wellicht onrealistisch maar ik zou het wel grappig vinden als Bottas vanuit zijn underdog positie ineens de kampioen wordt dit jaar.

Dus wie je er ook zet, men gaat winnen. Is speeltje van engineers en poppetje maakt niet heel veel uit blijkbaar. Poppetje moet luisteren en autootje wint dan wel.

Mercedes power helpt ook. Laat hem nou niet naast zijn schoenen lopen. Qua Race-intelligentie zit ie nog in het middenveld.

"Al heb ik natuurlijk nog wat in te halen op Lewis Hamilton"... Slimme tekst, je manoeuvreert jezelf in de underdog positie en ook zet je je teammaat (die momenteel niet in zijn beste doen lijkt) nog even een beetje onder druk.
Ik ben benieuwd of Hamilton z'n psychologische spelletjes (waar een temperamentvolle Spanjaard en een soms ietwat onzekere Duitser moeite mee hadden) ook helpen tegen een koele Fin.

"mezelf aanpassen aan de engineers" dus je stelt je onderdanig op. mooi uitgangspunt voor een baan als 2e viool. Hamilton herpakt zich nog wel en rijdt je finaal aan gort. Fijne dag verder :)
