Massa verwacht geen verschuivingen in pikorde

Williams-coureur Felipe Massa denkt niet dat alle updates voor de Grand Prix van Spanje de volgorde van de teams flink door elkaar zullen husselen. De krachtsverhoudingen blijven min of meer gelijk, verwacht de Braziliaan. "Er zullen geen grote verschuivingen in de pikorde plaatsvinden, ondanks alle updates. Misschien dat we Red Bull Racing wat meer kunnen uitdagen en het gat naar de top iets kleiner is, maar meer ook niet. Nog niet", benadrukt Massa.

Het Williams anno 2017 doet de routinier namelijk in niets herinneren aan het Williams van de voorbije jaren. Er waait een frisse wind door Grove en de Britse renstal wil een hernieuwde aanval op de hegemonie in de Formule 1 inzetten. Massa: "Voor wat we nu in Barcelona introduceren zouden we in de voorgaande jaren vijf maanden de tijd nodig gehad, nu ging dat veel sneller. Het ziet er allemaal anders uit binnen Williams."

"Eerlijk waar, wat ik nu meemaak is een wereld van verschil ten opzichte van de afgelopen drie seizoenen. Dan doel ik op de mentaliteit en de ontwikkeling. De verschillende afdelingen lijken veel beter op elkaar afgestemd en nauwer samen te werken. We hebben altijd goede mensen aan boord van het team gehad, maar op een of andere manier ontbrak er steeds iets aan. Ik denk dat het een gebrek aan teamwork was."

"Ik denk dat we dit seizoen veel beter kunnen presteren. Het werk wordt zuiver en intelligent uitgevoerd. Natuurlijk moet je er altijd nog voor zorgen dat de nieuwe onderdelen in de praktijk net zo goed uitpakken als in theorie, maar dat zie je pas zodra je de updates op de wagen installeert en ermee de baan op gaat."

Nog even en dan ziet hij geen RB voor zich, maar een Renault.
Die zitten er toch wel goed bij hier in Spanje.
