Pascal Wehrlein wederom in Q2

Sauber-coureur Pascal Wehrlein heeft het weer geflikt: de Duitser haalde alles uit de Sauber C36 en behaalde wederom een plekje in Q2. Een knappe prestatie, aangezien Sauber nog niet alle onderdelen van een grote aerodynamische update op de auto heeft geplaatst dit weekend. Het is de tweede keer dit jaar dat Wehrlein in de top vijftien start, in Bahrein werd een dertiende startplaats behaald.

Op de officiële Sauber-website laat Wehrlein weten tevreden te zijn met zijn kwalificatie: "Ik ben erg blij dat we wederom Q2 hebben gehaald. Mijn rondje in Q2 was bovendien helemaal niet slecht. Na de vrijdagtrainingen had ik dit niet verwacht, aangezien we toen wat problemen hadden. Ook in de laatste training ging het niet goed, maar gelukkig viel alles op zijn plaats in de kwalificatie. Ik heb het maximale uit het pakket gehaald en weet dat er nog meer inzit, aangezien we nog niet alle onderdelen tot onze beschikking hebben dit weekend."

Teamgenoot Marcus Ericsson miste het tweede kwalificatiedeel op een haar na en start de race als zestiende.
