Michiel Mol bereid stap opzij te doen bij Force India

Michiel Mol is bereid afstand te doen van zijn aandelen in Force India als dat betekent dat het team de stap naar de absolute top kan zetten. De Indiase renstal bezet momenteel de vierde plek in de stand bij de constructeurs en daarmee lijkt het plafond wel bereikt. Voor een aanval op de topteams is de steun van automerk of een rijke weldoener nodig.

Mol vertelde aan RTL GP-presentator Allard Kalff: "Er zijn altijd wel gesprekken, maar de laatste tijd wordt er wel heel veel over gespeculeerd. Het heeft natuurlijk ook wel te maken met de andere twee aandeelhouders (Vijay Mallya en Subrata Roy, red.) die wat beperkt zijn in hun vrijheid om het zo maar te zeggen. Er zijn wel gesprekken, maar die zijn er eigenlijk altijd. Het is niet zo dat het serieus is, wat je allemaal hoort over Brabham en andere dingen."

"Als we echt de stap naar de top willen maken, wat we als team het liefste willen, dan moeten we of een autofabrikant krijgen die er vol ingaat en dat we een plan voor de lange termijn hebben, of een type als Dietrich Mateschitz of Ecclestone, voor wie een paar miljoen meer of minder niets uitmaakt. Als zo'n partij langskomt en ons team wil gebruiken om echt voor de top mee te gaan doen, ja dan ben ik alleen maar blij."

"Ik zou het jammer vinden als ik daar dan geen onderdeel meer van uit maak, maar als het team daarmee de kans krijgt om wel wedstrijden te gaan winnen en misschien nog wel meer in de toekomst, dan moet dat zo doorgaan natuurlijk."

Overigens denk ik wél dat Mol niet iemand is die meteen voor het geld kiest, het sportieve vlak zal meer de boventoon voeren dan wat jij hier verteld.

  Eerlijk gezegd denk ik dat het animo bij de fabrikanten momenteel niet zo groot is. Veel te complexe motoren. Als er nieuwe fabrikanten instappen, dan wordt dat pas in 2021 denk ik.

  Als je ziet dat fabrikanten als Toyota en Volvo compleet stoppen met het bouwen van diesel motoren en meer de focus gaan leggen op elektrisch en hybride , dan lijkt het me niet dat een andere fabrikant miljoenen gaat steken in een F1 motor die volgens strenge specs gebouwd moeten worden.
  Zij zullen dan eerder de Formule-E interessant gaan vinden omdat dat ontwikkelingsmogelijkheden geven voor hun core business (zijnde personen autos).
