Het is vandaag precies 48 jaar geleden dat Jackie Stewart voor het eerst in zijn Formule 1-loopbaan vanaf pole position vertrok. De Schot was in de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Monaco 1969 vier tienden sneller geweest dan wie dan ook en dus nam hij op 18 mei de eerste startplaats in voor de race in het prinsdom. Die positie wist hij niet te verzilveren, Graham Hill schreef de wedstrijd in Monaco op zijn naam. Stewart zou in totaal zeventien pole positions behalen in de Formule 1. Monaco 1969 was de eerste.
