Wolff: "Hamilton terug van nooit weggeweest"

Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton herpakte zich in Spanje van zijn mindere weekend in Rusland. De Brit zegevierde in Barcelona na een rechtstreeks duel met concurrent Sebastian Vettel. Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff: "Na afloop kreeg ik de vraag of Lewis nu terug is. De waarheid is dat hij nooit is weggeweest, dat bewees hij wel in de Spaanse Grand Prix."

Hij vervolgt: "In Spanje viel alles samen voor ons. Nadat Lewis bij de start een plekje verloor aan Vettel was het geen simpele race. We liepen achter de feiten aan en toen Sebastian een undercut probeerde, hielden we Hamilton buiten en schakelden we later over op de medium compound voor een afwijkende strategie. Dat zou aan het einde een kans geven op een vers setje zachte banden."

"We maakten optimaal gebruik van de virtuele safety car-periode en namen risico met een lange stint op de zachte compound. We waren even bang dat het rubber het zou begeven, maar gelukkig gebeurde dat niet. Dat is wat me naast de zege van Lewis is bijgebleven na Barcelona, dat we progressie geboekt hebben met ons begrip van de banden. Dat is belangrijk voor de rest van het seizoen."

"Ik verwacht dat de rest van het seizoen ongeveer hetzelfde zal verlopen, met vooraan een spannende strijd en een ongelooflijke ontwikkelingswedloop tussen de beste teams. Kampioen wordt degene die zich niet alleen het meest efficiënt ontwikkelt, maar ook het beste omspringt met de banden. Je kunt op geen enkel vlak een steekje laten vallen. We moeten op alle aspecten top presteren om weer de titel te pakken."

Kennelijk is het lezen van het artikel al te moeilijk voor je, dan had je geweten dat Wolff....ach laat ook maar.

Beste heer Wolff...hoe kun je nu in vredes naam terugkomen als je nog nooit weg bent geweest? (dit is doordenker EN heeft de mogelijkheid te moeilijk te zijn... niet schamen!)

Wolff kan toch moeilijk zeggen dat Hamilton en Mercedes in Spanje gered zijn omdat Bottas Vettel een paar ronden kon afstoppen?

  Waarom kan dat niet? Het zou hem sieren niet alleen HAM de veren in de poepert te duwen! Beetje teambaas zou zeggen dat de strategie waarin Bottas zorgde dat Vettel 10 seconden verloor cruciaal was voor de winst. Dan kun je er zo een draai aangeven dat het een fantastische team prestatie was.... Daar is ie toch zo dol op?

  Ik denk dat Bottas zijn actie cruciaal was. Het had gewoon wat langer geduurd voor Hamilton er voorbij zou zijn gegaan. Het heeft geholpen maar zonder zou de uitslag niet veranderd zijn.
