Pirelli overweegt zachtere compounds voor 2018

Pirelli overweegt voor volgend seizoen zachtere banden leveren aan de Formule 1. Dat is de uitkomst van gesprekken met coureurs tijdens het weekend van de Spaanse Grand Prix.

De conclusie van gesprekken was dat Pirelli te conservatief is geweest aangaande de bandenkeuze voor dit seizoen. Het verzoek aan de bandenleverancier was om de komende races niet meer de harde compounds te selecteren. Mario Isola van Pirelli tegen Autosport: "Het was een heel erg interessant gesprek waarin ik de rijders sprak over hun visie over de nieuwe producten en de richting die wij in de toekomst op zouden moeten gaan. Het was een positief gesprek waarbij een hoop ideeën zijn uitgewisseld die niet alleen over de banden gingen. Bijna alle rijders waren erbij betrokken en ook alle topcoureurs kwamen met interessante suggesties", zo vertelt Isola.

Meer informatie nodig van andere circuits

Het is nog wel te vroeg om uit het overleg conclusies te trekken voor 2018, maar volgens Isola is er zeker ruimte voor verbetering in de toekomst. Hij geeft aan dat ze volop bezig zijn met de ontwikkeling van de banden. "De definitieve beslissing nemen wij later dit jaar als wij een goede indicatie hebben na races op Spa, Suzuka en Sepang", zo sluit hij af.
