Jenson Button: "Geen extra druk nu Sauber punten heeft gehaald"

Jenson Button is terug in Monte Carlo en natuurlijk neemt hij plaats achter de tafel van de persconferentie. Hij vertelt over zijn terugkeer, de druk die op zijn schouder ligt en zijn positie binnen het team.

Button: "Het is goed om weer hier te zijn en goed om zoveel bekende gezichten weer terug te zien. De voorbereiding was goed, behalve dat ik nog niet in de nieuwe auto’s gereden heb natuurlijk. Met de nieuwe reglementen was het niet ideaal inderdaad. Met het team heb ik besproken dat het de beste manier was om een aantal dagen in de simulator gaan zitten. Het meeste is hetzelfde op een paar dingen na en er zijn altijd een paar dingen te leren, maar het blijft gewoon een raceauto."

Op de vraag of de druk hoger is nu Sauber ook punten heeft gehaald en McLaren nog op nul staat zegt Button: "Nee, ik voel geen extra druk, ik ben gewoon relaxt maar vind het wel spannend. Ik heb hier al eens gewonnen en 17 jaar lang gewoond, dus ja: het is spannend maar ik voel geen extra druk." Of hij in staat is om punten te halen houdt hij in het midden: "Je wil concurrerend zijn en het beste uit jezelf, het materiaal en het team halen. De wagen deed het in Barcelona prima tijdens de kwalificatie. Dus we moeten hier redelijk concurrerend kunnen zijn."

Zijn positie binnen het team is niet veranderd doordat hij nu in de auto plaatsneemt. “Ik ben nog steeds ambassadeur voor het team, dat is niet anders geworden. En ik was hier toch al, dus in plaats van kijken en champagne drinken ga ik racen.

  Een coureur die gister letterlijk de druk voelde was Tom Dumoulin, bij BUTton zal het wel meevallen die heeft niks te verliezen ;)
