Na een dramatische kwalificatie maximaliseerde Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton met een zevende plaats. Hoewel Ferrari-coureur Sebastian Vettel verder is uitgelopen in het kampioenschap, kan Hamilton leven met het resultaat. De drievoudig wereldkampioen spreekt van een weekend waarin hij het nooit voor elkaar kreeg.

"Om hier als zevende te finishen is een goed resultaat. Na de kwalificatie van gisteren was ik echt niet blij en ik heb afgelopen nacht verschrikkelijk geslapen. Het team zei me vanmorgen dat een tiende plaats het maximaal haalbare was, dus het is goed dat het meer dan dat geworden is. Het was een heel moeilijk weekend, pas op de superzachte banden kreeg ik het juiste gevoel te pakken. Helaas kun je hier niet inhalen waardoor dit het maximaal haalbare was", aldus Lewis Hamilton in gesprek met Nathalie Pinkham van Sky Sports.
