Nico Hülkenberg: "Canada één van de mooiste weken van het jaar"

Nico Hülkenberg vindt de tijd in Montreal rond de Grand Prix van Canada één van de leukste weken van het jaar. De Renault-coureur hoopt sterk terug te komen na een teleurstellende race in Monaco. 

Hülkenberg was drie races achter elkaar in de punten geëindigd maar moest tijdens de Grand Prix van Monaco al na 15 ronden afhaken door problemen met de versnellingsbak. Snel vergeten en door zal hij denken. Hülkenberg: "Canada is een prachtig Grand Prix-weekend. De week in Montreal is altijd één van de beste van het jaar. Je ziet aan alles hoeveel Canada van Formule 1 houdt, de hele stad omarmt de race en geven ons een warm welkom."

De Duitser over het circuit: "Het circuit is een combinatie van straten circuit en een normaal circuit. Er zijn hoge muren aan het einde en mooie kerbs die je goed moet gebruiken om een goede rondetijd neer te zetten."  Ook hier zou het lastig inhalen zijn, maar hij ziet een mogelijkheid: "De laatste chicane is zeker de beste mogelijkheid om in te halen. Je moet alleen proberen uit de 'Wall of Champions' te blijven.

      Bengelke heeft gelijk, Renault is gewoon een topteam. Men is daar nog steeds zaken op orde aan het brengen, na de overname van Lotus, maar het heeft alle middelen die andere topteams ook hebben, en het is een kwestie van tijd tot ook Renault zich mengt tussen Mercedes, Ferrari en RBR. De stand is er niet naar, maar Renault is weldegelijk één van de topteams. Mercedes was in 2010 ook nergens, maar een topteam was het ook toen zeker wel. Ook al konden zij zich toen nóg niet weren tegen McLaren, Ferrari en Red Bull, of zelfs Sauber.

      Hulkenberg zit uitstekend waar hij zit met het oog op de toekomst.

      Je bent een topteam als je goed presteert en dat doet Renault (nog) niet, net als McLaren die geen topteam meer zijn omdat ze al weer jaren in de middenmoot rijden!
