Rubens Barrichello noemt 24 uur van Le Mans mijlpaal in zijn carrière

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Rubens Barrichello gaat later deze maand zijn debuut maken op Le Mans en dat is voor hem weer een belangrijke mijlpaal in zijn carrière.

De Braziliaan is bijna 20 jaar in de Formule 1 actief geweest met 323 Grand Prix waarvan hij er 11 wist te winnen. Na zijn pensioen in 2011 was hij te bewonderen in de IndyCar, de 24 uur van Daytona en de Braziliaanse Stock Cars. Nu gaat hij zijn debuut op Le Mans maken voor Racing Team Nederland naast Jan Lammers en Frits van Eerd.

Barrichello na zijn eerste testdag deze week: "Ik heb de race al zo vaak op tv bekeken. En aangezien ik zowel Monaco als Indianapolis heb gereden voelt dit als een belangrijk onderdeel van mijn carrière." De drie races vormen samen de Triple Crown, een prestige prijs die alleen Graham Hill pas wist te winnen, maar dat gaat Barrichello niet meer lukken.

"De 24 uur-races staan altijd op de radar van iedere coureur, dus ik ben erg blij dat we hier zijn en ik denk dat wij het goed kunnen gaan doen", zo zegt Barrichello. Voorlopig blijft hij nog wel actief in racewagens: "Het belangrijkste is dat ik hou van wat ik doe. Na 19 jaar in de Formule 1 zeiden mensen tegen mij, je moet stoppen, je hebt al zoveel gedaan. Maar het houdt pas op als ik niet meer van racen hou denk ik."

  Toen Rubens als 16 jarige naar Europa kwam racete hij voor het team van Jan Lammers die hem had gevraagd, toen al sprak hij dirty dutch (kijk maar naar de intervieuws tussen Rubens en Olaf).

  2 maanden ervoor was mijn eerste dochter geboren, zal dit nooit vergeten deze race op Hokkenheim. Schumacher in de eerste bocht eraf, en Door de winst van Barricello stond Michael nog steeds eerste. De Duitsers waren ontgoocheld dat Schumi in de eerste bocht gesneden werd. En gingen toen achter de Braziliaan staan. Pffff......alweer 17 jaar geleden.

Blijf het een sympathieke coureur vinden. Ben bang dat Team Jumbo niet echt potten zal breken, maar ik kan mij voorstellen dat alleen al het meedoen aan zo'n 'monument' geweldig moet zijn.

in 24 uur kan er veel gebeuren ook iedereen kan winnen ook met een minder snelle auto .
al is het wel zo dat meedoen en uitrijden al een helen prestatie op zich is
