Canada tot en met 2029 zeker van plek op F1-kalender

De organisatie van de Canadese Grand Prix en de leiding van de Formule 1 hebben overeenstemming bereikt over verlenging van het contract. Canada was al tot en met 2025 verzekerd van een plekje op de Formule 1-kalender, maar daar is nu nog eens vier jaar aan vastgeplakt.

Het akkoord zal dit weekend officieel naar buiten gebracht worden, meldt La Presse. De nieuwe verbintenis betekent dat de lokale overheden minstens 100 miljoen dollar extra kwijt zijn aan het Formule 1-evenement op het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

Onderdeel van de nieuwe overeenkomst is wel dat de organisatie van de Grand Prix van Canada de verouderde paddock onder handen neemt en voor de race van 2019 verbouwt. Die renovatie zou zo'n 48 miljoen dollar moeten gaan kosten.
