Nico Rosberg draait deur naar de Formule 1 op slot

Nico Rosberg is niet van plan om ooit een comeback in de Formule 1 te maken. De Duitser veroverde vorig jaar de wereldtitel en kondigde vervolgens aan te stoppen met racen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Op dat besluit komt hij niet terug.

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff achtte een rentree van Rosberg wel mogelijk. "Het zou me niet verbazen om Nico op een dag voor Ferrari of een ander team te zien rijden. Hij is pas 31 jaar, jong nog. Misschien verandert hij ooit nog van gedachten."

Rosberg zelf ziet dat niet zo snel gebeuren. "Nee, mijn Formule 1-loopbaan is echt afgesloten", vertelde hij aan Sport Bild. "Ik ben blij met en trots op de resultaten die ik behaald heb. Het geeft me veel voldoening. Maar dat is verleden tijd, ik richt me nu op andere bezigheden."

Hij sluit overigens niet uit om in de toekomst in een andere serie te gaan racen. De Formule E is bijvoorbeeld al genoemd. "Op dit moment is dat niet aan de orde. Ik kijk naar andere uitdagingen, maar wie weet. Wellicht op een dag in de toekomst."

    Ik blijf het wel cool vinden van 'm. Kan het zeer waarderen dat voor hem het leven uit meer bestaat dan uit enkel Formule 1.

      Precies @Ben. Nico heeft het goed gedaan in de F1 en daarna een keuze gemaakt die voor hem het beste werkt en het beste bij hem past.

    Ik vind het prima.... Ik mis 'm ook niet....
    Toen Raikkonen er mee stopte, mistte ik 'm wel meteen dat jaar. En Button mis ik dit jaar ook wel, maar bij Rosberg heb ik dat totaal niet....

      Ben ik wel met je eens. Rosberg is een goede coureur. Maar niet echt een persoonlijkheid.
      Net iets te gladjes, te grijs, huisvader achtig, berekenend.
      Geen hekel aan hem, maar ook niet mijn smaak zeg maar.

      Nou ik mis hem wel naast Hamilton. De fans hebben het geluk dat nu Ferrari meedoet om het WK maar anders was het Hamilton die nu alleen voorop had gereden. Waar Rosberg Hamilton nog het vuur aan de schenen kon leggen is Bottas meer een tam schoothondje.

      Ben ik niet helemaal met je eens Mario. Ik had het gaaf gevonden als Nico nog reed, dan zou het kampioenschap eindelijk weer eens om 3 mensen zijn gegaan. De regerend wereldkampioen, zijn iets meer getalenteerde teamgenoot en Seb de meeste WC's on the grid. Had het supergaaf gevonden. Nu lijkt het een 2 strijd te worden. Nico had Lewis en ook Seb een stuk moeilijker kunnen maken dan Bottas dat kan.
