Festival of Speed brengt eerbetoon aan Ecclestone

Bernie Ecclestone staat dit jaar centraal bij het beroemde Festival of Speed in Goodwood. Het evenement is van plan om er een traditie van te maken om elk jaar een persoon die van grote invloed is geweest op de autosport in het zonnetje te zetten. Ecclestone bijt het spits af bij het komende Festival of Speed, van donderdag 29 juni tot en met zondag 2 juli in Goodwood.

Ter ere van de voormalig commerciële baas van de Formule 1 worden vijf auto's uit de verschillende fases van zijn illustere carrière tentoongespreid. Ecclestone begon in de jaren veertig als coureur, was vervolgens zaakwaarnemer van onder meer Jochen Rindt, nam de leiding over het team van Brabham en werkte decennialang als commercieel brein aan de ontwikkeling van de sport.

Festival of Speed-oprichter Lord March: "Het is niet zozeer een eerbetoon, maar meer de viering van het leven van een racer die een grote invloed heeft gehad op de sport die ons zo dierbaar is. Het is geweldig dat Bernie ingestemd heeft om het weekend van het Festival of Speed in Goodwood door te brengen. Het doet me ook deugd dat hij enkele klassieke bolides uit zijn ongelooflijke verzameling historische wagens met zich meeneemt."
