Ross Brawn: "In de toekomst 12 of 13 teams in de Formule 1"

Sportief directeur van de Formule 1, Ross Brawn, heeft aangegeven dat de Formule 1 meer teams in de sport wil hebben. Recent waren er al geruchten dat er een Chinees team zou overwegen toe te treden tot de Formule 1 en ook FIA-president Jean Todt liet vallen dat ze een poging gaan doen de lege pitboxen proberen op te vullen. 

Brawn: "Ons doel is om in de toekomst 12 of 13 teams te hebben. Dit kan bereikt worden door het economische model aan te passen." Met dat model doelt Brawn op de huidige verdeling van de inkomsten waarbij de top teams op voorhand al het grootste deel van de taart krijgen. Sauber en Force India diende over deze situatie al eens een klacht in bij de EU. 

"De commerciële positie van de teams moet versterkt worden. Wij willen een meer evenwichtige inkomensverdeling bereiken al zal dat niet eenvoudig zijn", aldus Brawn.

    Ik ben zo blij met deze man, ik hoop dat hij steun genoeg krijgt om daadwerkelijk veranderingen door te voeren. Ik denk echt dat hij integer is.

      Hij heeft in ieder geval de focus op de juiste onderwerpen. Nu zal moeten blijken hoe doortastend ze zijn en hoe de machtsverhoudingen werkelijk liggen.

      Tot dusver hebben topteams altijd wat schouderophalend gedaan over de intro van nieuwe teams omdat hen dit niet werkelijk raakte, maar ik verwacht nu dat de loopgraven betrokken worden. Bv Ferrari gaat bij hoog en laag beweren dat 20 auto's ook goed genoeg is. Of Mercedes, mede-aanstichter van de huidige impasse, gaat op de quasi-redelijke zielige toer en zegt dat zij niet zo maar 200 man kunnen ontslaan
      (waar natuurlijk een eenvoudig weerwoord op mogelijk is, maar ie ruimte laat ik graag aan de immer doortastende Jean Todt).

    Dat weet ik wel zeker dat Ross Brawn integer is. Hij houd van de F1 puur om de sport. Maar ook hij moet helaas rekening houden met de doelstellingen van de fabrieksteams. Dus het zal wel even tijd kosten voordat alle neuzen de zelfde kant op staan.

    "In de toekomst 12/13 teams", dat is nog ver weg, dat zal niet gebeuren voor 2021, met de huidige dure motorformule.

      Heel mooi hoor 12/13 teams, maar als dat maar geen 4 a 8 rijdende chicanes worden.

      Verder ben ik ook heel blij met Ross Brawn erbij.

      Het zou fijn zijn als de teams met een young driver programma ook een opleidings team hebben zoals Toro Rosso is voor Red Bull. Dus Alfa Romeo (Ferrari, Maybach (Mercedes), en een young driver team voor McLaren. Daarbij zou men voor die teams een apart kampioenschap van kunnen maken. The F1 Young drivers championship.

    Ik ben ook blij met die man, maar voorlopig zijn het niets meer dan teksten die hier al vele jaren voorbij komen.

    Ik voorzie twee scenario's: na heel lang moeilijk doen gaan de topteams uiteindelijk akkoord met klein scheutje water bij de wijn, maar het blijft gerommel in de marge. In feite verandert er niets en blijft het doormodderen. Er zal zich best nog eens een nieuw team aandienen maar binnen vijf jaar, onder veel hoongelach en vingerwijzen dat het toch maar amateurs zijn, weer van de grid verdwijnen. Op de lange duur zijn het de autofabrikanten die de top3 bezetten.

    In het tweede scenario houdt Liberty zijn poot stijf en pakt F1 bij het fundament aan. De doelstelling is 10 verschillende winnaars per seizoen, en daarop wordt gestuurd. De algemene kosten worden met ruim de helft gereduceerd, de onderlinge budgetverschillen van factor 10 tot factor 2 teruggebracht. 90% van de onderdelen worden standaard onderdelen, maar komen in meerdere varianten opdat teams een eigen configuratie kunnen kiezen. Windtunnels worden gezamenlijk bezit. Regels voor bodywork worden versoepeld opdat auto's meer een eigen smoel krijgen - wel wordt een esthetische commissie in het leven wordt geroepen om gedrochten á la 2013 eruit te vissen.
    Ferrari roept moord en brand, dreigt F1 te verlaten met Mercedes in zijn kielzog. Ferrari stookt zijn achterban op, rumoer en protesten op tribunes. Een periode van ruzie en chaos volgt. In een legendarische vergadering houdt Liberty voet bij stuk, Ferrari en Mercedes stappen met veel bombari uit, beginnen rechtszaken, de pers schrijft dat F1 is ingestort. Door alle gedoe stapt ook Renault uit. Om aan de chaos een eind te maken heft Liberty F1 op, maar begint tegelijk een nieuwe F1-achtige serie die nog steeds als de koningsklasse van de autosport kan worden gezien, maar onder eigen voorwaarden. De rust keert terug, diverse in F2 actieve teams happen toe; Liberty moet zelfs een rem op het aantal aanvragen zetten. Na twee jaar keert Ferrari met hangende pootjes terug. De andere autofabrikanten duiken op FE en worden voor F1 nieuwe stijl hooguit motorleverancier of onderdelenfabrikant.
