Mercedes kan losse 'headrest' nog niet verklaren

Het team van Mercedes weet nog niet wat de oorzaak is voor de losgeraakte headrest van Lewis Hamilton tijdens de Azerbeidzjaanse Grand Prix. Na de herstart na de rode vlag-situatie zat de headrest blijkbaar niet goed vast en begon uit zichzelf omhoog te komen op de rechte stukken. Hamilton probeerde hem nog terug te duwen, maar het mocht niet baten.

De wedstrijdleiding dwong hem om naar binnen te komen, want met één hand aan het stuur met 340 kilometer per uur over het rechte stuk van start en finish denderen is niet de meest veilige situatie. Mercedes verspeelde met dit euvel een zeker lijkende overwinning; Hamilton had tot dat moment elke ronde aan de leiding gereden. Hij finishte uiteindelijk als vijfde.

Mercedes gaat tot op de bodem uitzoeken hoe dit heeft kunnen gebeuren. Motorsport-Total.com vernam in een verklaring van de Duitse renstal: "Het is menselijk dat men in dit soort gevallen naar elkaar gaat wijzen en de schuld op anderen probeert te schuiven. En als de een straf verdient, dan verdient een ander ook straf. Het heen en weer slingeren van beschuldigingen past niet binnen teamwork."

"We zullen alle procedures analyseren om te kijken wat we kunnen verbeteren. Dat proces is maandag al begonnen in Brackley. We zullen de vinger op de zere plek leggen en kalm en feitelijk het probleem behandelen, op een open, eerlijke en verantwoorde manier. We zullen hier lering uit trekken en ons verbeteren. Deze ervaring maakt ons weer sterker. Het proces van continue verbeteringen staat juist centraal in het DNA van de Formule 1."

  Dacht ook dat dat de beuk van Vettel misschien de oorzaak was, maar daarna kwam de rode vlag-situatie en zijn ze allemaal de auto uit gestapt inclusief headrest.

en dan denk aan bepaalde type dictators die over de rooie gaan, en hele dorpen straffen voor enkeling te vinden...

Vond het heel raar hoe Toto helemaal uitviel naar Ted Kravitz toen hij vroeg of Mercedes al wist hoe dit kon gebeuren. Weet niet of iemand dit gezien heeft, maar vond het een vreemd moment. Lijkt mij geen abnormale vraag voor een journalist om te stellen.

  Het is de taak van de journalist om te snuffelen naar een mogelijke rel. En het is de taak van Toto om pal achter zijn team te staan en het direct de kop in te drukken. Zeker net nadat hamilton de race verloor. Nog vol adrenaline en gelukkig niet politiek correct maar vol overgave. Heerlijk.
